Hello! Now accepting new students for in-home lessons. I have over 12 years experience teaching individual lessons. My areas of study were Elementary Education, Music Performance, and Theatre. It is my belief that each student learns at their own pace and in their own way. My goal as a teacher is to find the best program for each student so that they can enjoy learning their instrument or craft and come away from the experience with a better understanding of it, in general, and a feeling of accomplishment for themselves. Some students want to become professional performers and others simply want to learn for their own enjoyment. Both of those are admirable goals. What I teach: Flute -- beginning to late intermediate (fourth grade and higher, unless they already have some other form of musical background ex. piano lessons, etc) Piano -- beginning to intermediate (any age so long as they are able to read, at least a little) Auditioning: Do you have an audition coming up for which you want to prepare…I mean NEED to prepare??? I can help with all your stage auditions whether it is a musical theatre vocal audition or a monologue or even just cold reading from the script. The more prepared you are, the more at ease and confident you will feel during the audition process. "Where words fail, music speaks" ~ Hans Christian Anderson *** Lesson Details *** Instrumental: All of my lessons are catered specifically to the needs and desires of each individual student. I strive to always create a positive environment in which the student feels like they can ask questions and make mistakes and learn without feeling embarrassed or nervous. Everyone learns at their own pace and in their own way. There is no 'cookie cutter' lesson plan. For most students (especially younger), I recommend a 30 minute lesson, at least to start. Any more than that, in my opinion, can be frustrating and overwhelming for the student who is a beginner. More advanced players (and adults) may be interested in a 45-60 minute lesson. Auditioning/Acting: For most students I recommend a 60 minute lesson. If you are preparing for an audition then you are probably working within a very specific time frame. The more we can work, the better. Also, we aren't just working on mechanics or techniques. There is so much discussion and in-depth searching that needs to happen that in a 30 minute session we would be hard pressed to get everything accomplished. *** Travel Equipment *** In-home: Learning materials (books, instruments, scripts, music stand, etc) are not provided and need to be in your home for lessons and practicing throughout the week. Yes, you need to practice. I am not a drill sergeant about it but the more time you spend practicing the faster you will progress. I will recommend certain lesson materials and do expect for them to be purchased before the first lesson. If you already have a book that you are working from, that is fine, we can start the first lesson with that and then discuss together whether or not we feel it will help you in our lessons.
