Lesson Details

I am a high-energy teacher who loves to teach those who really want to learn. In my opinion, the piano is one of the easiest instruments to learn, but one of the hardest to master. In my lessons, I try to cover technique, theory and ear training, performance practice, and musicianship. I am always open to finding a balance of pieces that I choose for students to practice and music they pick for themselves. Everyone has their own personal goals for the piano, and I really enjoy helping ... students achieve their goals, whether it's learning their favourite pop song or preparing for an audition. However, the only way to improve is to practice! I do expect my students to practice at least 20-30 minutes a day, 5 days a week. Regular practice is the only way to be successful, especially with a complex instrument like the piano. And it makes lessons more fun for the student, as well as the teacher!

I graduated in May 2011 from the University of Maryland, College Park with a Bachelor of Music in Music Performance, my instrument being piano. My coursework included classes in music theory, history, pedagogy, as well as choral conducting. I have taught students of all ages and levels, focusing not only on music reading and piano technique, but also musicianship. I strongly believe that while you can learn to play notes from a computer program or video, you can only learn how to play music ... from another human soul.
