    My approach is eclectic. My piano teaching is based on traditional Germanic pedagogy, but as an American and as a composer , I know how important it is to incorporate creativity and expression into lessons. My studies of conducting with Leonard Bernstein at Tanglewood (1989) influenced we in ways that are far more than I can indicate in this space.

    Children are welcome as well as adults -- as well as ex-piano students who want to pick up from where they left off as children! When you tell me your goals, I tailor the approach to you, and that can mean creative improvisation, technical work, ear-training, or repertoire building. Music is one of the most joyful things anyone can do, so I try always to remember that during a lesson, keeping the atmosphere light and relaxed.     Here is a brief bio of my career as a musician:

    Gregory N. has had a long and diverse career as pianist, composer, and musical director. He recently gave a lecture-concert called “What Makes a Melody Great? “with the Joffrey Ballet School dancers demonstrating Swan Lake. He performed as solo pianist at President Clinton’s Inaugural in 1993. Since graduating from Manhattan School of Music in 1986, he’s played piano for practically every dance studio in Manhattan.
