    About Greg E.

I am a graduate of Northern Illinois University where I majored in percussion performance. There I have studied with my applied percussion professors Robert Chappell and Greg Beyer. I have also studied with Liam Teague, Cliff Alexis, Ernie Adams, Rodrigo Villanueva, Kris Myers, and Mark Guiliana in and outside of school. During my time at NIU I have been exposed to many different styles of music in which I have been taught classical, jazz, contemporary, Afro-Cuban, and Caribbean music styles just to name a few. I intend to use all the experience I have gained to help my students progress with whatever it is they want to focus on. A strong sense of groove and being attentive and aware to what is happening around you I feel are some of the most important qualities a musician can possess. In my experience having these qualities have helped me to be successful and I hope to ingrain these same traits in my students so they can interact with other musicians well. This makes music so much more fun for you and whoever you are playing with! I enjoy music and the journey of learning more about it and i want to share that same joy with my students. *** Lesson Details *** I base my lessons on the student's needs. So with that in mind there is no set curriculum i have for my students. If the student is young or new to the instrument, I will focus on, technique, reading, musicianship as main areas of focus. I keep a laid back atmosphere, I want the student to feel comfortable and not be afraid to ask questions or try new things, this is how you get better and this exploration is your time to be curious and creative and to have fun with it! After sometime you will notice a definite improvement in your technique and you should be able to play along to music and think on a higher level that allows you to be a great attentive musician. This should leave you with the tools you need to figure out how to approach any musical situation you end up in. *** Studio Equipment *** practice rooms w/ drum sets seating for parents *** Travel Equipment *** If I am traveling, I can provide equipment that is easily transportable. Ideally, the student should have a drumset or whatever instrument it is they wish to play on hand at their home. I can bring drums if needed though. *** Specialties *** I am primarily a drumset player and it is what I enjoy teaching the most. I am well experienced in other percussion instruments such as marimba, pandeiro (Brazilian hand drum) and others since I have been taught a wide variety in college, and feel confident that I can assist students to develop technique on any percussion instruments.
