Garry M. started playing piano at age 13, and actually taught himself to play! His parents couldn't afford lessons. It took him about 7 years to learn. He played for his high school choir. Garry also had several certificates of achievement for his musical performances in high school. Started teaching in 1987 with 7 year old twin girls. He also did acting and singing in 2 Broadway musicals. He graduated in 1990 from Flint Central High School. Attended Jordan College, Detroit College of Business, and finally, Mott Community College, where he also performed on piano for choir, and helped with rehearsals. Instructed at 2 charter schools, 1 public school district, and 1 Catholic school. I accept ages 5 - 14, with discounts offered for multiple children. I have taught over 400 students since 1987, and have given 31 recitals since 2003. I have a good sense of humor and my students are very comfortable working with me. It is a fact that piano lessons make kids smarter! *** Lesson Details *** Lessons are 30 minutes long and students will learn at their own pace. Theory is introduced as well as hand placement, and about the piano from day one! They will receive a study sheet of facts learned in their current lesson book. At the completion of each lesson book, the students will have a test (oral for younger student and written for older students) and receive a certificate of completion and graduate to the next book. Recitals are given twice per year to show off what the students have learned. They are free and open to the public.
