    About Gabriel F.

I am a guitarist with one foot in the classical music world and the other in the Brooklyn indie rock scene, who enjoys finding the connections between these two disparate genres. Born into a family of musicians hailing from Natal, Brazil, I became familiar with the songs of Bossa Nova, Samba and Chorinho at an early age. Since graduating with a degree in music theory and performance from Wesleyan University, I have been an active composer in New York's contemporary classical music community. *** Lesson Details *** My lessons are aimed to tailor the learning experience to each student, taking into account individual musical interests, motivations, and learning styles. While practice is paramount, it is more important my students understand how to practice efficiently, learning techniques to target specific roadblocks. I make my students' interests central to the learning process, encouraging them to bring in music that they wish to learn, while at the same time providing an established curriculum to establish good technique. *** Studio Equipment *** Lessons in the front room, keyboard, amps, 24X12 *** Travel Equipment *** I will provide books, methods, blank staves and exercise print-outs. I can provide a practice amp, chords, picks, strings and a student-model guitar, however I do expect my students to have these things. *** Specialties *** I have studied classical guitar for 13 years, currently focusing on modern composition. My interest in broader repertoire focuses on Latin American music. I have traveled to Brazil to study various styles including Samba, Maxixe, and Chorinho. My concentration in college was music theory, and I am most familiar with explaining late romanticism and chromaticism.
