I am an experienced guitar teacher / player with a BA in Instrumental performance and an MFA degree in Composition. I have experience teaching all levels, in various styles (Basic theory, Improvisation, Jazz, Blues, Rock/Fusion, Classical Guitar) and I have taught students ranging in age from 6 to 55. From August 2008 'till May 2010 I was a full-time teacher at Fun with Music in Chicago I have studied in Chicago with Frank Dawson (Chicago Jazz Ensemble), Norman Ruiz (classical guitarist), David Bloom (Bloom School of Jazz), Peter Lerner and Bill Boris (guitar theory & improvisation). I have shared stage with major names from the Chicago Jazz and Blues scene like George Freeman, Ari Brown Quartet, Clyde “Lightning” George. I am also experienced in teaching music theory, orchestration & composition. *** Lesson Details *** For a beginner student at any age I try to shape my lessons in such a way that the student gets more familiar with the instrument in a pleasant way as much as possible. I am laid back when necessary and especially for a beginner I try to use more than one method so that when difficulty appears I may try to switch gears so that the student still finds it exciting to practice or to finish their assignments. A lot of times this becomes possible when, let's say, practicing a scale can be put aside and playing a few chords from the student's most favorite song is done instead. Then the interest and the joy of playing is still high for them. For a more advanced student I can also be strict when, for example, improvising requires an extra amount of effort by studying alternative guitar techniques. I use different curriculum materials, from the Carcassi method book in classical guitar to Berklee College material for an advanced student or from various 'Guitar for beginners' materials or books to simply deconstructing various songs or tunes and playing them at the student's request. *** Studio Equipment *** Has full recording studio set up in his apartment. *** Travel Equipment *** guitar(s), books, CDs, *** Specialties *** Basic theory, Improvisation, Jazz, Blues, Rock/Fusion, Classical Guitar
