I specialize in classical and popular genres. I teach my students to read music from the very first lesson.

Lesson Details

I communicate effectively with my students in the lesson and outside of the lesson; I am very quick to return messages and reschedule lessons. Though I am laid back in my lessons, I have high expectations for their success. I treat each of my students with dignity and respect, and I see the inner potential of each them. I expect my students to become good performers, and I hold studio recitals frequently so that they can learn to perform well.

I use the Bastien Curriculum for piano ... students ages 5-10, and the Alfred Curriculum for piano students ages 11 and up. I use the Suzuki Method for all of my cello students, because it is a method that I firmly believe in.

My students will learn many essential things during their studies with me. In six months, my students will learn how to find the right position at the piano, how to read basic rhythms, and how to practice on their own. I place a great deal of importance on self correction and independence. My cello students will learn about good posture and position, how to tune their instrument, and how to find notes on the cello. They will learn how to read basic music passages and how to identify intervals. My students will also develop a strong listening skill, which is essential for every musician.

Six months are not long enough to master an instrument; students will need to take lessons for two to three years before they will have a cultivated skill on their instrument. My ultimate goal for my students is to make them completely independent of me; then they have truly learned to play their instrument.

About

I am an experienced teacher who has taught students of all different levels and ages. My students receive classical training on the piano or cello. I understand that a passion for music is the critical ingredient for musical development, and I pass my own love for music to my students. I teach my students to be diligent by having them use practice logs to record their progress. My students learn to understand the musical material and how to practice it at home. I especially focus on ... learning to read music in my lessons because it is a very important skill.

As I attended the Lamont School of Music at the University of Denver, I took classes about how to teach music to others. I bring this knowledge and expertise into my lessons. As a member of Music Teachers National Association, I can provide my students with several experiences outside of the lesson, such as performances and workshops.

I am a unique musician with a wide range of interests and abilities. I began learning piano in the classical tradition from the age of eight, and I began my cello studies at the age of eleven. I have fourteen years of musical experience. As I attended the Lamont School of Music, I became interested in writing and creating my own music, and I like to write solo pieces for the piano. I am also an accomplished cellist who has played in several prestigious youth orchestras around the country, such as the DYAO and the National Symphony Orchestra.
