As both a singer and as a teacher, I specialize in classical voice technique and repertoire. I also have a great deal of experience in Jazz, Rock, and Pop, and am able to help students excel in these genres as well.

Lesson Details

As your private teacher, I can promise you an enjoyable and very rewarding experience - smiles and laughter are guaranteed! My number one goal for each of my students is to foster confidence in one's self and one's abilities, and to grow one's skills in and passion for music. As I appreciate and expect that each student's goals and interests in music will be different, I approach each student and their lessons accordingly. Whether my students are young or old; whether they view voice lessons ... as a just-for-fun hobby; or whether they wish to pursue a serious music career - I am happy to facilitate all of this and more, as we work together to reach their goals.

My musical foundation is one based on proper vocal technique and strong musicianship skills. It is this firm foundation which has given me the ability to excel not only in opera, but in a variety of other genres. I bring this approach to my lessons with my students. I seek to give each student a firm technical foundation, in proper posture, breathing, vocal production, as well as in musicianship skills – including music notation and reading, basic music theory, and more. As students master these techniques, I will also work to help them find their own voice and their own means of expression. We will explore standard classical vocal literature as well as music that fulfills the student’s interests and goals. Each of my students will be able to sing and perform in a way that is not only natural and unique to them, but in a way which is also healthy and technically sound.

About

Simply stated, music is my life! I began piano lessons at age 8, and voice lessons at age 12. I am a graduate of the Youth Performing Arts School in Louisville. While at Y.P.A.S. I majored in Voice, and traveled with the Concert Choir performing in Canada, Austria, Germany, and at the 2001 United States Presidential Inauguration in Washington D.C.

I then went on to the University of Louisville, where I received a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance. While at U of L, I was awarded the ... Charme Von Bomhard Award for the most promising voice student in the area of opera. Also during my time at U of L I performed with the prestigious Cardinal Singers, with whom I toured extensively in Germany, and was featured at the World Symposium on Choral Music in Kyoto, Japan. I have also sang with the Kentucky Opera in performances of Puccini's Tosca and Madame Butterfly.

Currently, I sing at many venues and with various groups throughout the Louisville Metro area. I perform music in a wide variety of styles and genres, including classical, jazz, and rock/ pop. I am the lead singer of a successful local band called Smooth Blvd. We perform dance music from numerous genres and decades, including such artists as Aretha Franklin, Bonnie Raitt, Whitney Houston, No Doubt, Janelle Monae , and much more. I am also a regularly featured soloist with Louisville's own Derby City Brass Band, the Rascals of Ragtyme, and the Paul Davis Quartet. In addition to all of this, I also perform a great deal of sacred literature as a cantor for St. Joseph Catholic Church, where I sing Masses in both English and Spanish.

As you can see I have a great deal of experience and expertise in many areas, and I look forward to sharing all of this and more with my students.
