About Jake L.
Hello, nice to meet you. I have over 15 yrs. of experience teaching music/recording to both children and adults. Some of my accolades include: a degree from the Conservatory of the Fine and Performing Arts; Pianist/composer credits on at least three CD’s; Two GRAMMY awards for music recording/mixing and numerous radio airplay.
I first fell in love with music at the age of 4. My grandfather Umberto, was a conductor at the Metropolitan Opera house in NY while my grandmother Flora, a concert pianist, used to play for the family while my mother would sing along. I started my studies with my grandmother at the age of 6, five times a month and moved on to make it a daily event. I have loved music and teaching ever since and I would love the opportunity to take all the patience, caring and knowledge that my grandmother had for me and pass it along.
*** Lesson Details ***
My teaching style is all about the student. During the first lesson, I will listen, give guidance and watch. This will tell me how to best structure future lessons to get the most productivity and progress from the student. Beginners will benefit from my patient and gentle approach, while more advanced students will be challenged and given a firmer practice schedule.
I am classically trained but not strict about it. Our lessons will be encouraging, fun and open to different styles and ideas. We can either work from a structured course with lesson books, or I can teach you just for fun and by ear (no need to read music). I actually learned by ear first...reading and writing notes came after.
A typical lesson will include theory as well as techniques and a little music background about some famous composers if so desired.
*** Specialties ***
The majority of my recording experience is in Latin, Jazz and Adult Contemporary music. However, my personal music training and teaching, is in classical piano.
