Specialties

I teach from both a Berklee education as well as real world experience, and I like to expose students to as many aspects of music as possible. As a composer, I like to look at music in the bigger picture, and teach broader composition techniques alongside instrument mechanics. I can also teach you the most effective ways to write for a variety of styles, from rock bands to full symphony orchestras.

Lesson Details

My teachings span a wide variety of musical areas; basic instrument mechanics, writing techniques, music theory, and ear training are just a few of the skills I can teach you. I teach from not only my education at Berklee, but also from my experiences. Most importantly, I can show you just how simple this seemingly tricky task is, by building on very basic concepts to approach more and more areas of writing. Before you know it, music will flow from you just like any other language.

Most ... importantly, my highest priority is your progress, so we'll go through lessons at whatever pace is necessary for you. I consider myself very easygoing, and want nothing less than a comfortable, enjoyable learning environment for my students. I like to employ as many examples possible to keep things interesting, and hope to teach you as much hands on material as we can. After all, isn't the point of all this to make some music?

About

I’ve been playing music since I was 9, and writing since I was 14. I was initially drawn to writing by an interest in the architecture behind music, as creating things has always been a favorite activity of mine. My strong and constant desires to learn more motivated me to excel throughout school, and eventually led me to Berklee College of Music, where I specialized in film scoring. There I cultivated not only a deep, personal musical language, but also extended myself in all different ... directions, learning to speak with the orchestra, spending lots of time in studios, conducting small ensembles, and generally living and breathing music. From there, the journey led me to Los Angeles, where I continue to pursue music’s various avenues, working on independent films, spending time in the commercial world, and just writing, writing, writing. I consider myself a guitarist at heart, but through years of study have attained so much more.
