My students have done amazing things, including everything from singing a lead role in a show to conquering stage fright to rocking as lead singer with a band to sparkling in recitals... and nothing makes me happier than watching them succeed! I'm a young performer who loves singing, playing piano, dancing, acting, and being onstage! I've studied voice, opera, piano, and performance skills in America, Paris, and Italy. I am now working on my PhD in Musicology at the University of North Texas, and I'm looking forward to teaching students here! I earned my BA in Music (Piano/Voice/Organ) and my Masters in Vocal Performance from the University of Minnesota Duluth, where I received my training in vocal- and piano pedagogy. I also spent three and a half years in Europe studying and performing in conservatories. I love foreign languages, and I speak French, Italian, Spanish, and Turkish, and now I'm learning German. I've had specialized training in singing in foreign languages, which opens up a whole world of music for me and my students! My opera performances in the last few years have included the following full roles: Inez from Il trovatore Frasquita from Carmen Cherubino from Le nozze di Figaro Giannetta from L'elisir d'amore I've also performed opera scenes, art song, musical theater, and sacred music. I also produced Gilbert and Sullivan's The Pirates of Penzance with a cast of young singers ages 8-18, and after just 1 month of rehearsals and voice coachings, my students sang music from the classic operetta just like professionals... even my 8-year-old soloists charmed the audience with their moment in the spotlight! If you're looking for a teacher who will make you top priority, work tirelessly to make sure you get what you're looking for out of lessons, and always be willing to listen, I can't wait to meet you! *** Lesson Details *** I believe that students learn better when lessons and practice time are fun! Whether your goals include singing/playing for fun at home, performing in competitions, preparing for college level music study, or just learning to perform like a star onstage, we can work together to choose music that you'll love. I incorporate a little of everything in lessons: performance, music reading, sight reading, musicality, and theory. We work together to set practice goals that will help you make progress, but that fit with your schedule and keep learning fun. I'm always open to requests and questions! My teaching strategy is to respond to your learning style and move at your pace, getting the most out of each lesson and your practice time. Being a strong performer is about dedication, loving what you're doing, and working smarter (not harder) to get maximum benefits from your practice time. In 3 to 6 months, you can expect to be reading musical notation, on the road to healthy performing technique, and excited to play or sing your new repertoire for your friends! *** Travel Equipment *** Students should have a piano or keyboard (including voice students). A CD player (or speakers for an iPod) is helpful but not required. *** Specialties *** Opera/classical voice Learning to sing in Italian, French, German or Spanish Beginning and intermediate piano (children or adults) Popular music
