Emily G, an involved music lover since age 7, is currently completing her senior year at Georgia State University with a degree in Choral and General Music Education. She began taking piano with Dr. Francisco and Mireille Silva, MM, and later from Dr. Brandt Fredriksen of Georgia State University. She has achieved a number of honors in music which include being a founding member of the Tri-M honor music society in her high school, a member of Georgia All-State Choir, a soloist and section leader of marching band, and completing a Junior Piano Recital at Georgia State University. Emily has experience in teaching private piano lessons for Dr. Francisco and Mireille Silva and is certified in their unique method of teaching known as the Silva Piano method. She is also a Yamaha certified teacher who teaches private lessons and group music classes at the Yamaha Music Education Center in Roswell, Ga. She also has experience teaching group classes at Kennesaw State University in their Summer University program. Emily is a member of the Georgia Music Educators Association (GMEA), the American Choral Directors Association (ACDA), and the National Society For Music Educators association (NAFME). Emily has many experiences in different areas of music. She plays the piano, studied the flute for 9 years, sang in many choirs and college programs, and is currently learning to play the guitar. She is also employed part time as an Audio Engineer at Victory World Church and Restoration Church of God. She has a passion for music which includes playing, composing, and arranging. She also loves teaching and influencing students to love and appreciate music while developing musical skills. *** Lesson Details *** PIANO: You will notice immediately that the way I teach piano is drastically different than the average teacher. I was trained by the best of the best and use their method in my own teaching. My focus with beginners is to develop good technique and get them playing from the very beginning. I teach using Solfege (Do, re, mi...etc) which means we will do a lot of singing and memorize the notes of our pieces in the beginning. It is more important to look down at the hands and develop finger technique and build good habits when beginning to learn the piano. I also do not neglect the left hand early on like so many teachers. EVERYONE can play with their left hand and both hands together, so why wait a year to get students to do it? We immediately learn to play left hand and hands together, as well as chords, and finally, different parts in the left hand and right hand. Each student is different and will have different strengths and weaknesses, and as such, each student is ready to learn to read music at different times. Sight-reading and reading music is very important and will be taught at the right timing for the student. It is taught through solfege exercises and is very efficient and will stick with the student for the rest of their lives. My philosophy is to have fun and reap the benefits of an effective teaching method with hard work and good practice and to be proud of what you can accomplish! VOICE: As an former All-State trained vocalist as well as a choral music education major, my focus in training voice is developing good singing technique to promote healthy singing, developing good tone, pitch and vowel accuracy, develop the ability to harmonize and sing in groups, sight-reading and music reading skills, and overall confidence in singing. *** Studio Equipment *** Studio upright Kawai piano.
