I am a certified elementary school teacher with over sixteen years of professional teaching experience. I have tutored students from PreK through college level from the time that I was in college through this past summer. In addition to completing a major in elementary education, I also completed a full major in English. I nearly completed a major in math. While in college, I tutored other students in Freshman Comp and Lit, all English and writing subjects, ESL students in speaking, reading, writing, and listening skills, math students through college algebra, and Spanish students through the intermediate level. I tutor students at my schools to help them with their classes and for high stakes testing (FCAT/SAT 9 or 10) preparation. I have also tutored elementary and middle school students for WyzAnt and Tutor Doctor. I have helped students earn their GED’s and staff at my schools pass their necessary examinations. I teach to each student's needs and search for the best ways to help him or her progress with his/her learning style and abilities. I make learning fun, yet relevant for all students, from ESE (SLD, ADD, ADHD, etc) through advanced learners. *** Lesson Details *** I have resources available for all grade/learning levels. I have my students actively learning throughout the lessons. I am careful to follow the standards and objectives for the learners with whom I work. My students do a lot of hands-on activities during the sessions. They create foldables, learn about various "traditional" graphic organizers and make (and then play) games they create. If families want, I give assessments similar to the large school tests. I love technology, and often infuse technology into my lessons. My students do a task to summary their learning at the end of each session. I provide homework and/or study links, as well, if the families desire those options. *** Studio Equipment *** My "equipment" varies with the subjects I teach. I have my students (of all age/grade levels) use manipulative (resources) so learning becomes easier and more relevant. Quite often, I have my students make their own learning/study aids such as foldables, flash cards, etc. I always have a bunch of general school/office supplies: index cards, a stack of paper, a pair of scissors, pencils/pens/markers, tape/glue, and string, and a notebook. (My students need a place for their notes, too). I bring my phone as a way of using technology, showing links/sites/apps and concepts and math and language arts skills. *** Travel Equipment *** My travel equipment is my car. I keep a book-bag ready in my car, with a folder/binder with spaces for all of my students. I keep my general supplies ready, as well. Once I finish a session with a student, I immediately add any supplies from home that we will need for our next session. Adding the items to the bag right away, especially when I have multiple students, makes it easy for me to know that I have the right "equipment" to use with each student. *** Specialties *** I find each student's best learning style(s). All of my students, from ESE, ESOL, students with IEP's and 504 Plans,and other students needing extra help, through advanced (gifted) learners, make enormous learning gains.
