Specialties

My background is primarily classical music/ opera, and I believe that this foundation can be applied to all styles of singing. I come from a school of thought that is based on Italian Bel Canto technique and also on the belief that this is grounded in concrete physical and scientific principles, so I tend to be quite literal in my instruction, and feel that this helps the student to understand and become an independent musician.

Lesson Details

I really strive to help students articulate, set, and accomplish goals. These are naturally very different for every person. That being said, I think that a strong classical foundation in both piano and voice is a very important tool for this, and all my students learn how to read music. I will always try to present the material in a way that is fun and approachable, and in a way that best suits your learning style. Beyond that, though, I really try to let the student's needs and interests ... dictate what repertoire we work on and how fast we move.

Hi! My name is Elisabeth, aka Libby to my friends. I teach piano and voice lessons both in my apt in Park Slope and at your house. 

I'm primarily trained as an opera singer, but I also love working on musical theater (it was my gateway drug into opera!). My little sister is a wonderful singer- songwriter, and she got me interested in helping people sing well while playing their guitars.

I also love teaching piano lessons. I try to keep them fun and give you a good base technique at the ... same time. At your first lesson, we'll be talking about kitten villages and bouncing around the keyboard with balloons. It's a little zany, but it works, and we always have fun!
