    Specialties
I specialize in teaching children ages 6 and up. I also teach adults. I prefer to use several method (tutor) books depending on the student and the age. I use several different music theory workbooks as well.
I teach classical violin technique for beginners for a solid background in violin playing and branch out into fiddle tunes and styles if the student is interested in learning fiddling. Having a good background in violin technique prepares the student for any genres and also ...
    Lesson Details
My violin lessons start out with the basics for beginners. For a beginning student, the basic approach to good technique for the violin is essential in developing tension-free playing. To give you an idea of the basics: how the violin and bow are held, good posture, producing great tone with your instrument, learning basic music theory (musical scales, arpeggios.keys and note values), sight-reading music, aural training (learning by ear), rhythm, learning how to tune the instrument and ...

Rated 5 out of 5 by Great Violin Lessons Diane is a great Teacher. We are very pleased that she is teaching our young daughter (12) to play the Violin. At the beginning we were a little bit nervous since this was the first time for my daughter to be in contact with music and it turned out to be great. Diane has been very supportive, always finding better ways to reinforce the lessons and making sure her students understand every practice objective. She is patience, very flexible and she always emphasizes the importance of having fun while one learns to play an instrument. She works hard to prepare and keep a good record of every single lesson. We are excited, but most important, our daughter is enjoying learning to play the violin. Thanks Diane! January 9, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Looking forward to a new journey Diane has been a Godsend! She is very patient and kind-hearted. She explains things in a way that is easy to understand; for a beginner this is very important. She teaches about the instrument and its history, as well as the music that comes from it - classical violin as well as the fiddle -- just what I was looking for. She is always encouraging, upbeat and willing to go the extra mile for those less knowledgable than herself. A wonderful teacher for both young and adult students. May 19, 2012
Rated 5 out of 5 by I have had an excellent experience thus far. I thoroughly enjoy going to my lessons. Diane is patient, positive, knowledgable and fun to work with. I would highly recommend her to anyone considering learning to play the violin. March 5, 2012
Rated 5 out of 5 by Diane is an AMAZING teacher! I love her so much. She is extremely warm and welcoming, and always eager to help me enhance my learning experience. She is very good at noticing what I need to work on, and giving me tools and tricks to do just that! She is also very good at letting you decide what you think you need to work on, and what you would like to get out of each lesson. She's always lending me books and cds, and anything she thinks will motivate me to become more involved with the violin, and she is constantly suggesting local groups and jams that I can join if I want to meet other local violinists. I am extremely happy with my experience with Diane. She is exactly who I was looking for to help me get back into the violin world! Thanks so much Diane, you're the best! February 26, 2011
  • Getting Started

Excited about jumping into music lessons? Before you can get to the guitar tabs, violin concertos, and vocal riffs, take a moment to think about the logistics of your lessons.
    Lesson Length
There are a few things to consider when choosing between 30-, 45- or 60-minute lessons. First and foremost, take your age and experience level into account. You'll also want to think about your long- and short-term goals, and the time you'll need to reach them. Most importantly, consider how long you or your child is able to stay focused.
    Lesson Location
Teachers have the option to display availability for in-home, in-studio, and online music lessons. In-home lessons take place at your house, in-studio lessons are conducted at the teacher's home or professional studio, and online lessons are taught over the internet via live video chat.

    What To Expect
Every teacher is different, but most first lessons begin with an assessment of where you are in your studies. At a beginner level, you might review the basics of your instrument, such as the different parts, how to hold it correctly, and proper care and maintenance. For voice, this may be the time you learn about breathing and posture.
    Reach the Goals You Set
Every TakeLessons student is unique, and so is your lesson plan! You'll work with your instructor to develop a plan suited to meet your specific goals. Most TakeLessons instructors will also keep track of your progress with a lesson journal.
