Del *** Lesson Details *** I pride myself on making my lessons fun and useful at the same time. The most important thing is making sure my students want to learn what I am teaching them. This will make lessons enjoyable and will inspire the student to practice and improve. I like to take an assessment during our first lesson, asking about the students goals and things they want to work on. I want to know what kind of music they listen to and what kind of music they want to perform. I then will ask the student to sing or play something (assuming they have some experience). This gives me an idea of their current level. Once I have a clear picture of the student and his/her goals, I'll create a custom lesson plan that focuses on the student's goals and areas of improvement. For voice students, we'll focus on breathing, stretching, visualization, pitch training, scales and vowels, singing through the "mask", warming up, cooling down, and overall performance. The depth and order in which I show these different pieces to the student will vary depending on the student's current level. For piano students, I create a custom lesson plan depending on the student's interests. I understand that not all students want to learn classical music, so I don't always follow a single book or method.
