I am a passionate musician and educator who is dedicated to helping students not only learn to play their instrument but to become a well-rounded musician. I love working with students of all ages and sharing my experience and love of classical, jazz and world music styles. I graduated from the Eastman School of Music with a Bachelor of Music degree in Saxophone Performance and Music Education, and went on to receive a Master of Music degree in Jazz Saxophone Performance from Manhattan School of Music. Performing all over the U.S. and abroad has been one of the highlights of my life as a musician. I lead my own jazz trio and quintet and perform as a featured saxophonist and clarinetist of several award-winning ensembles. I look forward to sharing my love of many styles of music with my students.

FANTASTIC! Debra has a wonderful way she makes learning the saxophone a pleasure. My grandson who is 12 immediately commented on his genuine liking of his new music teacher. He immediately went home and did his first practice session and he is looking so forward to his next lesson with Debra. She excels in all teaching areas which gives her students confidence. I'm sure due to her natural abilities she is responsible for many students moving forward to successfully complete their goal to play an instrument!

I have always wanted to play the flute since I was little, but I was never sure if I could handle it and my parents would only get for me if I was sure. Even when I bought it after my 18th birthday with my own money, I was a little unsure about it. I was worried I wouldn't get it right, but once I met Debra, all of my worries disappeared. Debra not only is a great instructor, but her friendly disposition can make any student feel comfortable. There was never a time where I felt like I was not doing good enough. She was always willing to make compromises to help me learn and even went out of her way to learn the songs that I wanted to play and even played little demos for me so I could know how the songs sound like with the flute alone. I would recommend Debra to anyone and I hope no one hesitates to choose her as their instructor. It is likely that I will be looking to her for guidance once again sometime in the future. If you need a teacher who is flexible in her teaching style and knows how to make sure you're comfortable and happy learning your instrument, pick Debra!

I have been teaching woodwind students of all ages for more than 15 years, in a variety of settings from public and private schools, individual and small group lessons and concert band and jazz ensembles. I believe that private lessons are a partnership between the teacher and student, and have found that students thrive when they are inspired by their lessons and experience the success of mastering a fun, new piece of music. Cultivating a regular practice schedule is the key to this success and I help students learn how to practice so that they feel confident to play in ensembles, perform in recitals and have as much fun as possible playing music, because to me, that is the ultimate goal.
