    About Dave F.

I am a professional working musician who plays Lead & Rhythm guitar as well as Bass guitar. I started this journey in 1968 and have never stopped!! I love to teach Guitar and Bass as it is such a wonderful experience to be able to play music anywhere you choose to! I find that it also keeps my life happy and offers the great opportunity to learn something for your entire life. When I teach another person, I get to witness the joy and life that it brings to my students. I currently play in 4 professional music groups, as well as teaching guitar and bass. My guitar style is a hybrid of Classic Rock, Blues, Folk, Country Rock, Soul, Reggae, Light Jazz, Latin Rock and delves into the musical theory and techniques that the pros use on all of the music that we hear!!!! I believe that my work is to further enhance other people's lives by showing them the wonderful, magical and deeply rewarding world of music. My style of teaching is designed to encompass each of my students individually. I ask questions of my students to find out what they are wanting to achieve, and then our lessons are structured to bring those goals into being. *** Lesson Details *** When I teach, I am quite laid back. I teach the fundamental rudiments to my students who are just beginning by teaching them the names of the strings, basic chords, strumming techniques, picking and finger-picking techniques, how to "feel" a time signature/beat/measure and tempo. For my students that are more accomplished, I teach the modes of the guitar, lead guitar and bass guitar techniques, scales and how they work with chord progressions, time signatures, and how to improvise with songs. I also teach how to write a song and to understand why it sounds this way. After 3 or 6 months, my students usually are playing some popular songs that they enjoy, along with creating their own songs. *** Studio Equipment *** Livingroom: comfortable, 24 track studio, acoustic guitar, or electric guitar thru studio with drum machine and bass machine, working with headphones, music stand, parents can sit in on lesson. *** Travel Equipment *** I provide written lessons that I have prepared from the internet and my music book references. I do not provide guitars or basses or amplifiers. I do bring my own guitar (acoustic Taylor 210). I expect my students to have their own guitar/bass and amplifiers. *** Specialties *** My main objective is to teach students how to understand the rhythm chords, lead scales/bass scales and how they are interrelated. Next, I work on teaching my students how to improvise utilizing lead scales with lead guitar techniques based in rock, blues, funk, soul, light-jazz, R n' B, and latin rock. I teach my students to work with drum tracks so that they understand timing, proper phrasing, and silence. I teach my students how to listen to other players and to prepare themselves for live and studio work.
