    About Daniel H.

Hello! My name is Dan and I love teaching bass. Why? While most of us would go to the guitar first, I chose to pick up the bass. I drew the "short straw" when my friends and I wanted to start a band when I turned 12. My dad had an old fender jazz so I picked it up. I learned very quickly that the bass is more than just plucking the bare necessities to get through a song. I learned to treat the bass as a solo instrument, as an instrument of melody, not just foundation. While at Appalachian State receiving my BS in Music Recording and Production, I was able to perform as a session musician on several recordings. I learned to be quick, confident, and solid in my performance, regardless of what instrument I play (Guitar, or Bass). This is exactly what my students will learn. Material covered includes: Finger, Slap, and Tap techniques, Scales, Modes, Jazz and Classical Theory, Instrument Anatomy, Ear Training, and more! I've received formal education of my own on all instruments I teach, so students can rest assured that techniques and practices are up to par, and continuing lessons with stack like building blocks onto already, foundational knowledge. Lessons will be fun, yet engaging. Students and teachers both must develop trust with one another to achieve knowledge. While I teach my students, they will notice a big difference in their confidence and ability to perform with others. This is a new year, so why not learn something new? *** Lesson Details *** Students must provide their own instrument for lessons. It is important that students learn on the instrument they will be playing and practicing on the most. If lessons are provided at the student's home, an amp is not needed, but preferred. *** Studio Equipment *** Ibanez SR505 Electric Bass Samuel Shen SB150 Hybrid Acoustic Bass Fender Standard Jazz Bass '72 Fender Precision Bass '52 Gibson ES300 Electric Guitar Ampeg BA500 Combo Amplifier Takamine G-series Acoustic Guitar Mac Mini (quad-core, 3.2 GHz) Presonus Firestudio Project Pro Tools 10 Yamaha HS50M Monitors KRK 10s subwoofer Waves Power Bundle Waves Mercury Bundle Art Pro VLA II Shure SM57 Shure SM58 Blue Bluebird AKG Perception 420 *** Travel Equipment *** Car Bass/Guitar Amp *** Specialties *** While I'm proficient in all styles and genres, I specialize in jazz performance.
