    About Cory M.

Cory M (MA, Music) is passionate about music performance and creation. In 9th grade, Cory traded in his surfboard for a bass guitar and never looked back. Playing bass in a band lead to songwriting, and songwriting turned into a Bachelor’s degree in music with an emphasis in composition. Fascinated by the complexities of the musical experience, Cory went on to earn his Masters Degree in music with an emphasis in music history and theory. As a multi-instrumentalist, Cory has performed live and in the studio as a bassist, drummer, guitarist, and vocalist in a variety of acts since 1992. As a songwriter, Cory has written hundreds of songs in several different genres for bands and personal projects. He has also worked as a composer/songwriter on a few music industry projects and continues to pursue songwriting personally and professionally. With over 10-years of teaching experience, Cory daily helps teens and adults learn how to play and create music. His current “day job” is teaching recording, songwriting, music production, and general music (instruments, theory, etc.) at a private high school, where he helps teens realize their creative ambitions in sound. *** Lesson Details *** In your lessons with me, you can expect enthusiasm, humor, practical application, and an emphasis on the music you want to play or create. All I ask is that you bring your excitement for music. If you would like to learn to create music, I can teach you: -songwriting -recording -beat making -music production -audio animation (great for all ages!) -music technology If you'd like to play music, I can teach you: -guitar (acoustic or electric) -bass (electric or upright) -drums -ukulele I specialize in helping people who may be allergic to overly academic methods of music instruction...in other words, you can learn to play or create the music you love without having to get bogged down in the "boring stuff." We'll learn what you want to learn and we'll move at your own pace. But...I'm trained in all the theory stuff, too, so if you want to get academic I'm game. ;-) I play instruments everyday but creating music is what I love most. Today's music technology has made musical creativity more accessible than ever before, even if you're not proficient on an instrument. I can show you how to make and record your own music, podcasts, or audio animations. All you need is imagination, a creative spark, and a computer (with music software like ProTools or Apple's GarageBand). *** Studio Equipment *** I come to you! No more rushing to get to your lesson on time. ;-) *** Travel Equipment *** I can provide all necessary accessories, but I expect my students to have their own instrument or computer (+ necessary software). To our lessons I'll bring whatever we need, from amps and effects pedals to microphones and tab paper. *** Specialties *** Rock (classic or modern) and all rock-related genres, pop, indie, metal, hip-hop, rap, electronica
