Learn the fundamentals of music and piano technique while playing music that you or your child wants to play. We will find music together that you want to play, and break it down into easy chunks, while learning all of the musical theory and knowledge that's needed to get there. I don't teach from a rigid, formal system but rather let our lessons cater to the particular student, while still imparting all of the knowledge that you would get from a traditional teacher. I especially like to emphasize the learning of improvisation for students of all ages, to bring out their natural creativity, fearlessness, and fun in their piano studies.

Hi there! I am a local Portland area musician who has been playing professionally for 10 years. I got a degree in Jazz Studies at the University of Oregon. I have experience in teaching and playing a wide range of musical styles: from tango to noise to punk to classical. My philosophy on teaching is that we learn what you want to play, as the real effort to improve will come from finding and working on music you love.
