About Colin D.
I have been involved in music for most of his life. I started playing piano at an early age and was involved with a church bell choir as well. During High School, I played in the Bishop Lynch High School marching band drumline as well as the school’s symphonic band. At the tender age of 16, I picked up the guitar, inspired by the Guitar Hero game, little did I know how difficult the real thing was! I persevered and discovered that music was my true passion and in 2009 was accepted into the University of North Texas’ prestigious music program. During this time, I played in the Trinity United Methodist’s worship team for a year and half, playing both lead and rhythm in the band. I graduated magna cum laude from UNT in Spring 2012 with a bachelors in music with a concentration in classical guitar. I have received guitar lessons personally for 5 years from northern Plano guitar teacher Earl Bailey and University of North Texas Doctorate students Mike Morey and Armin Abdihodzic. I enjoy composing music in my spare time in addition to working as a teacher and a freelance musician. I also play in the Dallas group known as Guitarchestra which plays classical music in a rock band setting.
*** Lesson Details ***
I have a generally set curriculum for the first few months and it gradually evolves to the student's wants, needs, and desires over the course of about six months. Much of this depends on a student's practicing, willingness to learn, and apt for the instrument. I will be teaching them to play chords, scales, a few basic songs, know the fret board, and some minor improvisation to their favorite tunes. Every student starts off from the same place but once the first few months has passed, the floodgates to some real fun will open and the possibilities are endless!
*** Studio Equipment ***
The in-studio lessons are taught in the living room which includes seating for parents. Upon request, parents can use WiFi to access the internet on their phone, tablet, or computer. Room includes music stands, materials, has 1 acoustic guitar, multiple electric guitars and amps. No pets. Non-smoking. Parking: a few spaces available out front or roof of garage with elevator access.
*** Travel Equipment ***
I provide the equipment for my own instruments. I also provide the student with printed material which includes a beginner packet as well as more intermediate/advanced material as the student progresses. The student must provide their own equipment including a personal amp, guitar, and music stand.
*** Specialties ***
I specialize in blues, rock, and metal. I also specialize in music theory and song writing.
