    About
I've loved music since I was able to walk. When I was 5 or 6, I would listen to my mother's stereo system, with Jim Croce playing on the 8-Track tape deck.....(ok, so I'm aging myself a little bit). I would lay on the floor in between the speakers which were turned inward toward my ears. I could lay there for hours, tapping my toes to "Bad Bad Leroy Brown", "Roller Derby Queen", "You Don't Mess Around with Jim", and many others. I would also listen to the Beatles, Seargent Pepper's Lonely ...

In-Home: I provide each student with their own personalized binder with the lesson program, and practice items. I also provide music stands. If the student doesn't have their gear yet, I can offer my expertise in finding the right instrument / equipment to fit the student.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Great way to learn guitar. He is exactly the teacher that I was looking for during years. January 16, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Very Knowledgeable, Good guy, Easy to work with, Flexible Instructor After being self-taught in guitar for a few years, I had hit a brick wall in technique and my sense of progression and decided it was time to get professional help. At age 44, I was also set in my ways and I had acquired several bad habits from being self taught, but I wasn's sure how to correct them. Carter is helping me break these. Most importantly, Carter asked me about my goals and desires and developed a specific plan to help me get there. Now, I dedicate 80% of my "guitar time" to what I want to do and the other 20% to what Carter has assigned me. I am making great progress and overcoming some obstacles. As important, my lessons are fun and engaging. I highly recommend Carter to all ages and levels of experience. August 17, 2012
Rated 5 out of 5 by Wonderfully Talented Teacher.... I have only taken a few lessons now, and already my understanding and skill have improved significantly. Carter is friendly and understanding of my learning capabilities. His lesson plans are organized and creative, making learning seem relaxed, rather than pressuring. Carter's passion is like David Coverdale meets Brian Johnson! The man can probably play anything with strings! If you want to learn from the best, skip the punks and choose a real guitarist! :) September 22, 2011
Rated 5 out of 5 by Manager/student Excellent instructor, very knowledgeable, very laid back and easy to interact with. August 29, 2011
Rated 5 out of 5 by Beginning student Carter is very encouraging and keeps you focused on your goals. He makes it to where you don't get bored just working on one thing, and leaves you different areas to practice on to keep it interesting and challenging. He is very easy going and a really good teacher. If you have lots of questions, he has lots of answers! I highly recommend him. April 29, 2011

  • Getting Started

Excited about jumping into music lessons? Before you can get to the guitar tabs, violin concertos, and vocal riffs, take a moment to think about the logistics of your lessons.
    Lesson Length
There are a few things to consider when choosing between 30-, 45- or 60-minute lessons. First and foremost, take your age and experience level into account. You'll also want to think about your long- and short-term goals, and the time you'll need to reach them. Most importantly, consider how long you or your child is able to stay focused.
    Lesson Location
Teachers have the option to display availability for in-home, in-studio, and online music lessons. In-home lessons take place at your house, in-studio lessons are conducted at the teacher's home or professional studio, and online lessons are taught over the internet via live video chat.

    Payment and Billing
We make paying for your lessons convenient and hassle-free! Prices vary based on several factors, including the city you live in, the length of your lessons, and whether you're taking them at home, in your teacher's studio, or online. Lessons are paid for in advance, which locks in your time slot.
    Signing Your Customer Agreement
Signing your Customer Agreement and completing your Student Questionnaire is the last step! The questionnaire will give your instructor valuable information about your goals and experience level, and give him or her time to create a customized lesson plan right from the start.

    Start Your Lessons

Now the excitement can really begin! Consider the following to ensure an exceptional first lesson...
    Prepare for Your First Lesson
Once you've completed the last step, your teacher will call you within the next couple of days to confirm your first lesson time and provide you with directions to their studio, if needed. We also encourage you to discuss your goals and any other questions you may have.
    What To Expect
Every teacher is different, but most first lessons begin with an assessment of where you are in your studies. At a beginner level, you might review the basics of your instrument, such as the different parts, how to hold it correctly, and proper care and maintenance. For voice, this may be the time you learn about breathing and posture.
    Reach the Goals You Set
Every TakeLessons student is unique, and so is your lesson plan! You'll work with your instructor to develop a plan suited to meet your specific goals. Most TakeLessons instructors will also keep track of your progress with a lesson journal.
