    About Carrie T.

    Developing personal goals, and finding one's creative voice is a lifelong pursuit that can be very rewarding. Learning new things, developing one's musicality and creative interests adds dimension and richness to my life. This invaluable gift makes a person and their life experience more interesting. Music conveys one's story- longstanding universal language. Studied classical piano formally 12 years (started age 5), pursued interest in jazz theory/voice/piano since high school (started age 14). Studied jazz voice and piano at Gallatin School of Individualized Study (NYU), private instructors in classical and jazz piano/voice since high school. Studied with Dr. Gerard Knapp, Dr. Chan at classical piano camps at WSU Pullman. Jazz piano, creative writing, voice performance at Port Townsend; studied with Jay Clayton and many talented musicians. Received piano scholarship from Shoreline Comm. College at 15. I was the first jazz singer in the Northwest School jazz band, directed by late Floyd Standifer; performed at Benaroya Hall, former Town Hall, Wing Luke Asian Art Museum, other local venues. Recent years learning classical and jazz piano improvisation, violin, other creative voices. Literary arts, published last year Capitol Hill Times print edition, visual arts, (4 solo exhibitions/gallery contract age 19 Gallery 110, Pioneer Square; received regional League of Innovation award and award of national merit. Study abroad in Paris, studied in New York, lived abroad in Spain, six months Seville/5 weeks Barcelona, one year teaching in S. Korea; believe immersion is most effective learning experience for languages. Masters in Teaching from City University, (Diversity Scholarship recipient) Washington State Teacher Certification. *** Lesson Details *** I discuss with students and listen to their personal goals. Learning occurs during contact hours as well as during students' own time. Provide audio-tape of each lesson. Student-centered teaching fosters steady growth of skills and knowledge.
