    About Carol R.

I am an experienced musician and teacher with a sense of humor, who can relate to people from all walks of life because of all my varied positions. I have been a music teacher in the public school system, taught piano and organ privately at my studio for many years, had numerous positions as a church organist and choir director. and worked for a professional music organization as a Production Editor. I grew up in Chicago, then moved to Colorado and later Montana. In 2005, I moved back to Chicago and have been here ever since. I have attended Chicago State University, where I received a B.S. in Education (music emphasis), The American Conservatory of Music in Chicago where I received an M.M., The University of Colorado at Boulder, where I was a doctoral student in Music, and finally I received the Doctorate degree in Music Performance at The American Conservatory of Music in 2005. In my teaching, I am totally focused on the student and what they want to learn from piano lessons. I see each student as an individual and attempt to steer lessons according to his/her needs, while at the same time sharing my knowledge and skills to enhance the student's learning. *** Lesson Details *** Since I see each student as an individual, I gear my teaching to that person. My style is generally laid back, but I do expect students to take music lessons seriously, and do their best at it. I want students to understand basic music fundamentals so that they can read and understand music on their own, not just memorizing facts or pieces which with they cannot identify or relate. I like to cover all aspects of piano playing, including technique, repertoire, and theory to the extent that the student is interested. I look at the total picture and see the whole person, and how piano playing fits into his/her life. *** Studio Equipment *** The In-Studio lessons are taught in the living room which includes a Roland 88 key weighted keyboard (w pedals). No pets. Parking on the street. *** Travel Equipment *** The student is expected to provide the instrument (88 key weighted or semi-weighted keyboard). *** Specialties *** I can teach any style of music - depending upon the students' needs and wants.
