    About Bryan W.

With a Bachelors degree in music performance from Manhattan School of Music and over 4 years of private teaching experience I will be able to pass along my skills and experience as a freelance musician in New York City. My musical training in NYC began at The Juilliard Pre-College program and led me to perform at such prestigious venues as Carnegie Hall, The Kennedy Center, Jazz at Lincoln Center, Brooklyn Bowl, Joe's Pub, Le Poisson Rouge and 92Y Tribeca. While my formal training is in classical music, I'm well versed in Jazz, Rock, Funk, Electronic and Contemporary music styles. I currently play trumpet in "Pitchblak Brass Band", a 10-piece hip hop brass based in Brooklyn, as well as guitar in experimental pop group "Air for Ants" and electric bass in progressive funk trio "The Phryg". I am able to give insight from my conservatory classical training as well as through my frequent performances in rock clubs throughout the Northeast. *** Lesson Details *** I am a very firm believer that a strong, solid foundation in fundamentals on one's instrument will allow you to flourish into a more adept and versatile musician. My lessons consist of basis music theory/harmony, scales, sight reading and music analysis. I'm happy to give guidance and suggestions for repertoire, but the music we learn is essentially up to the student. The most fulfilling moments I've had playing music have occurred when I'm entirely immersed creatively in the music I'm making a.k.a HAVING FUN. If you decide to take lessons with me you will progress steadily and have a great time doing it! *** Studio Equipment *** Music Stand, Sheet Music, Electric/Acoustic Guitars, Electric Bass, Trumpets, Synthesizer, Guitar Amplifiers, Microphones/Recording Equipment *** Travel Equipment *** Students homes must be accessible by public transportation *** Specialties *** My method of teaching brass instruments is based off of Arnold Jacobs (the late Tuba player of the Chicago Symphony) with whom my mentor/teacher Vincent Penzarella (former trumpet in New York Philharmonic) studied. My approach for teaching is based of the individual strengths, weaknesses and general needs of each student. By setting high standards, providing goals and creative imagery; I encourage my students to become "story tellers of sound".
