Music has been a large part of my life since I first started taking piano lessons at the age of six. In fifth grade, I learned to play the flute, and I performed in bands all the way through college. In high school, I also picked up the violin, and enjoyed playing in orchestras as well. I earned my Bachelors degree in Music Education and my California teaching credential from Biola University in Southern California. During that time, I enjoyed playing many other instruments. My primary instruments are the flute, piano, and violin, although I also play several other instruments. In addition to giving private lessons, I also teach school band and orchestra, so I bring the added perspective of a conductor who can help students learn how their part fits in with the whole ensemble. I have taught elementary, middle school, and high school band and orchestra, as well as clinics and small group classes. Currently, I teach music in a local school district. I also enjoy occasional performance opportunities. I have years of experience teaching private lessons on several instruments to students of all ages and backgrounds. I love to help students experience the joy of music, whether it is as a future career, or simply as a hobby. My goal for my students is to learn and grow as musicians, and to have fun in the process! *** Lesson Details *** I approach teaching private music lessons in a way that is both fun and productive. Students will find my personality to be very warm, encouraging, and easy going. I am genuinely passionate about helping students reach their musical goals, whether they are career oriented or simply as a hobby. I am well versed in a variety of literature on each instrument that I teach, and will help students find enjoyment in learning to make music at any age. I believe in having a strong foundation in the basic fundamentals of music technique and also in the importance of playing styles of music that are both fun and rewarding. It can certainly be challenging to learn a new skill, but with hard work, determination, and fun motivation, it will certainly be worthwhile! *** Studio Equipment *** Open living room setting. Upright piano. Couches for parents. Parking nearby. One small, friendly dog (stays in another room during lessons). *** Specialties *** I am very well rounded in both popular and more traditional styles of music. I do not necessarily insist on teaching from any one particular series of method book, although I am familiar with several. I will work with each student to determine which method books are most appropriate and also suggest supplemental materials. If you already own a book, have a particular one in mind, or are already playing from a certain book in school, that is fine, too!

We choose Briana because we like her background as a music teacher for a school district. We are looking for someone who's resourceful and have ways to encourage kids to enjoy and love music. We hope not to just learn & practice one piece after another, but find someone who can influence, introduce and educate. Our first meeting went very well. My daughter, who's generally very quiet and reserved, likes Briana's warm, upbeat and encouraging approach. We are looking forward to our next lesson.
