    About Brian B.

ATTENTION: I have decided to go back to school and earn a masters degree in horn performance, so I am currently unavailable for ongoing lessons. However, if you desire a single lesson with me to work on a specific issue, feel free to contact me to see if we can fit one in with my schedule. I am a middle school band and orchestra teacher and brass musician with performance experience on horn, trumpet, and euphonium, as well as voice. Some of the ensembles I have performed with include the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Masters Orchestra, and Crown City Symphony. I also coordinate the Los Angeles Hornsaplenty Christmas event and invite my students to participate in it as well as TubaChristmas in Los Angeles or Anaheim, because if you don't enjoy playing your instrument, you shouldn't keep playing it! I hold a BA in music education and a teaching credential from California State University in Northridge, and have studied with Roy Poper (studio trumpeter), David Washburn (trumpet for California Philharmonic and LA Chamber Orchestra), and Brian O'Connor (studio hornist). For this reason, I tend to favor methods from James Stamp and Vincent De Rosa, but feel that every lesson plan should be tailored to the individual student's needs. With nearly a decade of teaching experience in the Los Angeles Unified School District, I have guided many students in playing various instruments and continue to dedicate my time and energy to refining my instructional delivery so that it makes the trickiest concepts clear in the students' mind. *** Lesson Details *** Online lessons are available through Face Time and are conducted while I am in my home studio where there will be a solid internet connection. *** Studio Equipment *** Home Studio: Music stand, keyboard, metronome, tuner, sound equipment, and supportive chairs for the student and teacher. Parents may wait in the living room, which has a TV. School Studio: Music stands, keyboard, metronome, tuner, sound equipment, and supportive chairs for the student, family members, and student. I can also do small group lessons in this studio. Students are expected to bring their own instrument and any method books or sheet music they seek help with. I have a number of method books and exercise books as well which I can introduce the student to before deciding if they should get their own copy to study from. *** Travel Equipment *** Folding music stand, metronome, tuner. Students are expected to have their own instrument, supportive chairs for the student and teacher, and any method books or sheet music they seek help with. I have a number of method books and exercise books as well which I can introduce the student to before deciding if they should get their own copy to study from. The lesson should take place in a common room (i.e. living room, kitchen, den), and a parent or guardian must remain at the home during the lesson if the student is a minor. *** Specialties *** Classical and jazz styles, arranging, conducting
