    About Bradley S.

Every day I help musicians discover their creativity in private and group lessons. When the teaching day is over, I sneak back into the studio and have a lot of fun improvising on my own on piano, bass, drums, flutes and fiddle. It's such a blast to make your own music. • Touring concert jazz pianist • Recording artist of nine albums • Teaches master classes nationwide • Owner of a private piano studio specializing in improvisation • Author of America’s top-selling, nine-book piano method, "That’s Jazz" • Pop/Jazz Chairperson for Music Teachers National Association • Co-Founder of 88 Creative Keys Camp for improvising pianists • Broadcast credits include seven seasons on the PBS-TV series, "The Piano Guy." • Writes for Clavier Companion, Downbeat, American Music Teacher among others • Faculty: Suzuki Music Columbus, Chamber Music Connection, and The Jazz Academy • Winner of a special citation from the American Prize in Composition for "his unique skill in combining classical techniques with popular idioms." *** Lesson Details *** Unlock your creativity at the keyboard! Whether you're a novice, intermediate hobbyist or classically trained pianist, I can help you play the piano in ways you never dreamed possible. Get the tools you need to play your favorite tunes: • Pick out melodies by ear • Improvise variations • Add chords and “stock” accompaniment styles Already an "ear" player? Learn to play fuller sounding arrangements by: • Interpreting lead sheets and chord charts • Understanding pop/jazz chord symbols and voicing • Improvising in jazz, blues and rock styles Note: My availability as listed here is only general in nature. My actual schedule is far less open and constantly changing due to online lessons, drop-in students seeking master classes and my tour schedule. Just know that your lesson time will have to be worked out with me regardless of the time and date for which you've signed up here. Prior experience improvising or playing jazz, blues, or popular music is not necessary. Basic music reading skills are helpful but not required. *** Studio Equipment *** My music studio looks like a music store - just loaded with instruments. *** Specialties *** Most music teachers either teach reading music or playing by ear (esp. guitar teachers). I teach both because I believe both are essential for playing today's wide variety of musical styles. You can learn to read from lots of teachers but if you want to improvise, I'm your man.
