    About Beth B.

I am a professional performer and teacher. I have been working in the Chicago area since 1986 and enjoy a nice balance between teaching and performing. I am a member of the Illinois Philharmonic, and have been a substitute in most of the other orchestras in the area. For 5 years I was the principal substitute for the St Louis Symphony and I currently travel from time to time to play in orchestras out of state and sometimes out of the country. I love teaching, passing on the experiences I have had over the years. Many of my students do very well at IMEA and other competitions. I try to instill a love of music which has evolved into many students participating in the music programs at their college, even if they are not music majors. Students have also gone on to professional careers in music, but what is most important to me is that they learn to express themselves via music and enjoy others doing the same.

    Lessons with Beth

I teach my students to have strong fundamental skills (reading music, rhythm, control of air and understanding how it works, structure of music, phrasing etc). For students that have been playing a while, they quickly see improvement in their skills. For the beginner, this develops a strong foundation that leads to excelling faster than their peers. Regardless all students gain a sense of confidence in what they are doing which carries over to improved performances.
