I've been playing drums for over 14 years. My focus is on Jazz, one of the most virtuosic forms of music, and Funk, a close cousin to Jazz. I enjoy tracing the roots of the music I like as far back as I can to discover where the origin of some of my favorite rhythms come from. This has taken my music on a world journey to New Orleans, New York, Washington D.C., Cuba, Brazil, Trinidad & Tobago, Colombia, Africa and beyond. *** Lesson Details *** I have a laid-back attitude in the studio while teaching, but have high expectation for my students. Practice is expected, but the results are amazing. We will combine fundamentals like stick control and rudiments into play-a-long sessions and more interesting grooves. Combining creative independence and strong fundamentals is a guaranteed way for awesome drumming. I will always try to cater the long-term lesson plan to your own goals and interests. *** Studio Equipment *** In Studio equipment includes a full drum set, stereo for play-a-longs and practice to metronome, music stands, hand drums, drum pads, and potentially a second drum set to play together. Lessons are taught in living area. No pets. Parking is in alley between 29th and 28th (west of Federal). *** Travel Equipment *** Sticks, auxiliary percussion, metronome, practice pad, extra drums if necessary. *** Specialties *** Jazz, rock, funk, hip-hop, Afro Cuban, Brazilian, rudiments, technique, time. I specialize in developing a well-rounded musician. Drummers are expected to be able to play a wide variety of styles, and I help make sure my students can be versatile players. I also like to focus on feel and groove, something that can't be written out but other players notice in a drummer.
