Lesson Details

Lessons are personally tailored according to each student's needs and skill level. The first few lessons will be utilized to assess these needs and set certain goals to work toward. I believe that parental collaboration is the key to successful outcomes for children who range from the ages of 4-12 years. I prefer that the parent is present for most if not all lessons in order to take notes and learn to help the child succeed.

I use an integrated curriculum that puts heavy emphasis on three ... core aspects of music: listening, technique, and theory. I come from a musical background that was extremely disciplined and focused on these core aspects of music. As a teacher, I will have high expectations for my students in the progress and development of these skills.

As a teacher, I will push you as hard as you want to go. Those that come in eager to learn and grow find themselves not only succeeding, but also having a lot of fun. Every three months, I conduct a formal evaluation of my student's progress. There, we will discuss the strengths and weaknesses of the student as well as any feedback you may have of me. I promise that if you are dedicated to practicing at home and bring a great attitude to lessons, you will see rapid improvement and progress in just three months!

I also believe that performance is key to musical growth and will provide several opportunities each year for students to showcase their progress to friends and family.

My name is Benjamin S. and I graduated with my B.S. in Psychology and Spanish from Brigham Young University. I am now in Knoxville studying to get my PhD in Performance Psychology. I have been playing the piano since I was four years old and have traveled around several places in the world to perform and compete.
