Lesson Details

As an instructor, I believe wholeheartedly in letting the student lead the way. I base my lessons upon the student's interests. I am more than happy to serve as a guide and a mentor, but I allow my students room to discover, explore, and seek the things that they desire. This does not mean that I leave my students hanging! I will be there every step of the way. But it is definitely essential for my students to strive toward what they want and to have fun doing so!

Perhaps you want to learn ... a song you heard on the radio? I can transcribe that for piano, and we can learn to play that. Or perhaps you want to sing it, but it's too high or too low? I can alter the key and we can work on that. Or perhaps theres a song that you've been trying to write, but you can't seem to get the chords right? I'd be more than happy to help with that, also. My time is your time. Whatever you want to work on, I am there to support you every step of the way.

Though I want my students to do their best, I am not looking for perfection. I believe that oftentimes, students are too heavily chastised or scolded and this can create a very stressful and even frightening environment. This is certainly far from my aim. I want my students to fully experience the beauty of performing and creating music. This involves a wealth of patience and kindness on my behalf, and of course, a wealth of enjoyment and learning on your behalf.

Hello! My name is Audie and I am both thrilled and honored to be a part of the TakeLessons team! Ever since a young age, I have been surrounded by music in all facets of my life. It has guided me and shaped me into the person I am today. To be a music instructor means to be the one who facilitates and nurtures that growth. This deeply resonates with me and is the reason why I choose to teach music- so I can carry on that torch that was once passed on to me.

My expertise lies greatly in both ... vocal performance and piano performance. I have received many years of professional instruction in voice, accompanied by numerous performances in which I honed my craft (everything from solo to choral). I am skilled in all sorts of vocal performance- anything ranging from classical to musical theatre.

With piano, my skill lies considerably in chordal knowledge. Though I am very capable of classical repertoire, my heart lies with on-the-spot arrangements and improvisations. This involves "fake book" music, which I find is one of the most fun types of music to perform.

Though I have been well trained in both solo voice and solo piano, I find a true passion in combining the two. I am highly skilled at singing at the piano, with self accompaniment. I believe this sets me apart from the rest, and highlights me as a unique and talented individual. For those who are skilled in both areas and seek to combine them, I am very excited to teach you my ways!

I am also extremely adept in music theory, songwriting, and composition. I hold a B.A. in Music from Loyola University of Chicago, where I studied with some of the most brilliant musicians I will ever have the pleasure of knowing.
