About Ash S.

I am a college educated music instructor from St. Paul. I am also active in the local music scene as a singer/songwriter. I began learning violin when I was 9 years old. When I heard the instrument being demonstrated by a teacher I fell in love with the sound. I taught myself guitar and piano shortly after. I began teaching music on the side back in 2008 to supplement my family. As my business has grown faster than I expected I began to realize my potential as a teacher. I can now say that music instruction is my sole source of employment. My teaching style incorporates learning the building blocks of music. If we can speak the language of music then we can take our study in any direction you desire. If you have a yearning to learn classical violin, we can do that. If rock guitar is your thing, we can explore all the guitar greats. If you want to learn songwriting on the piano, by all means!

Directed music students through many levels of popular method books including Suzuki, Strictly Strings, All For Strings, Alfred’s Piano Course, Faber & Faber Piano Course, Hal Leonard’s Guitar Courses. Taught popular music with chord progressions and melodies. Incorporated music theory into all my training. Continuously attempting to enlighten the student to the beauty of theory in new inventive ways.

Accomplishments Through years of being part of professional concerts and festivals I have learned the every facet of putting on a successful concert. Acquired knowledge about industry standard guitar amp, bass rigs, keyboards, drum sets. Worked for artists such as: John Mayer, Train, Peter Frampton, Lionel Richie, Hanson, Three Dog Night just to name a few. Troubleshooting and rectifying ability for all the gear TMS provides.
