About Me

I began playing the piano and performing in various choirs while still in elementary school. I discovered a passion for music that has never left me. While in high school I lettered in both jazz band (piano/trumpet) and concert choir. After I graduated with honors I attended Mount St. Mary's College, a small liberal arts college in Los Angeles. I graduated magna cum laude with a degree in music theory.

After graduating I took on several voice students. As a voice instructor ... my job was preparing students for the myriad of auditions in the Los Angeles area.

I returned to Phoenix and attended ASU West in pusuit of my Elementary Education degree. I started teaching music full time in the Phoenix Elementary School District.

After teaching for several years I went back to ASU in pursuit of my Masters in General Music. I graduated with honors and ideas in how to reach more students and try to instill in them the same love of music that I have.

I have conducted various choirs, honor choirs, bands, and groups throughout the Phoenix area.

I chose to go part time this school year to give me more time with my family. I currently teach general music in a kindergartedn through eigth grade setting along with band, strings, and choir.

I am certified in both Orff and Kodaly methodology and find that the applications of both in the lesson setting are invaluable.

Lesson Details

Students, parents (if students are children), and I begin by setting up our goal plan. The plan includes practice and lesson schedules along with lesson plans. All lessons begin with several minutes of warm ups and drills. Even in the warm ups students are still learning theory, technique, and sightreading. After warming up students will move on to the bulk of the lesson which includes more formal theory, improvisation, composition, repertoire, and sight reading will follow the warm up. ... Finally the remainder of the lesson is spent on going over any new material either the student has or that I have brought for the student, and any other literature that needs to be discussed.

I believe in a positive learning experience, and strive to give my students the knowledge and fun of music.
