Hi! I'm April L! I’m enthusiastic & caring, fun & friendly, and I want YOU to SUCCEED! I’ve had a love for music since I can remember! My first expressions of music were singing in the car, shower, living room … anywhere I could! I took music lessons as a child, and it wasn't until college that I really developed my skills. I have been teaching Piano, Music & the Arts for over 15 years and love it! I've taught hundreds of successful students, and the two things they (or their parents) have in common is consistency and a desire to learn! These students have continued their love of music and performance thru high school, college, and adulthood! The most important gift I can give you? To inspire you to Believe You Can! I look forward to getting to know YOU! :) *** Lesson Details *** I believe that learning anything new involves a good rapport between student & teacher. The first thing we’ll do is find out your goals & the style of learning that works best for you! To make the most of your time, we’ll incorporate your senses to involve you fully ... sight, sound, speech, touch. This will allow you to learn at a good speed, while creating a strong foundation for you to build your future. TOGETHER, we will customize a plan JUST FOR YOU! ALL STUDENTS ~ YOU will have the opportunity to perform in one or two recitals each year! Although it's optional, it is important to your overall experience. Most students look forward to this event, because everyone gets to encourage each other AND be encouraged! The goal is for you to feel comfortable sharing your talent with your friends & family. It's a time to celebrate what you've learned! Beginning Piano Students: Whether you are 5 years old, or 105, we will start with very simple assignments so you can feel comfortable with the basic concepts of music. You will be able to play beginning pieces (songs) within the first few weeks! Since each student is unique, I have FIVE ways to teach note-reading, so if one way doesn't fit for you, we have four other choices! I have created solid methods for you to learn easily. These have been proven with years of success, so I know you will be able to absorb & master basic note reading QUICKLY! (Please note that children under 6 years old may need more time.) Intermediate & Advanced Piano Students: At your first lesson, we will find out what you know, what you WANT to know, and what it takes to get there. Bring your most recent books and materials, so we can sample different pages from your previous music lessons. We will touch on rhythm, theory, and sight reading, to refresh your skills! Voice / Singing & All Performing Arts Students: We will explore techniques & exercises to familiarize you with your choice of study, and build from there. The sky's the limit! ALL STUDENTS ~ Whether you want to JUST HAVE FUN with music & the arts, FULFILL a lifelong personal interest, or PURSUE a professional career ~ YOU & I can make it happen TOGETHER! *** Specialties *** I specialize in People! I have been told that I am especially skilled in teaching Beginning & Intermediate Piano Students. I have also taught students with ADHD, ADD, Visually Impaired, and Hearing Impaired. I enjoy all genres of Voice (Singing) & Instrumental Music, and have experience in the Performing Arts ... on stage, in front of the camera, and behind the scenes!
