I am a flutist and teacher with over 15 years experience in the classroom/private studio currently serving the greater Jacksonville area from Nocatee in Ponte Vedra! Parents, looking for a fun and enriching activity for your child (ages 4+) that builds brain cells and makes newer, stronger connections? I am one of only THREE Kinderflute teachers in the entire state of Florida! Please inquire about more information regarding the KinderFlute program. Middle/high school flutists, want to earn a Superior rating at solo & ensemble or make the all-state band? I am looking for students with a desire to go further with their playing while having a lot of fun! I have teaching experience in several age groups and areas of music education. Most recently, as a band/choir director in Duval County. I have also taught instrumental and general music at the elementary, middle and high school levels in FL and in my home state of Colorado. Since 1999, my private teaching experience has ranged from beginners of all ages to amateur adults and college music majors. I currently perform as a flutist in the First Coast Wind Ensemble. Previously, I have served as director and played piccolo for the Cow Boy Band in Idaho Springs, CO, and held the piccolo/3rd flute chair in the Aurora Symphony Orchestra, CO. *** Lesson Details *** My goal for every student is consistent progress and growth. In our time spent together, we will focus on FUNdamentals and music theory through the use of games, movement, and your instrument. If there is a specific musical selection that interests you, we can explore that as well! For the beginning student, within the first 3-6 months, we will begin to discover how to read music notation, read/perform rhythms, and produce a quality sound on the instrument. We'll learn how to play some traditional folk songs and begin composing your own works! We will learn HOW to practice and create a routine. I will help you figure out what you really want to learn and achieve that through our lessons as well as your individual practice. For the intermediate-advanced flute student, we will begin understanding more music theory and different types of scales. Soon, you'll be playing solos with ease and be able to identify patterns in the music. We'll learn about performance practice techniques, breath control, tone production and musicality! We will also learn performance skills, how to work with technology, and how to have a great stage presence in front of a live audience. We will then begin learning more challenging music. For all of my students, it is a journey that is exciting, unique to each individual, and one that we will embark on together! Because music is a performing art, I aim to coordinate one to two music recitals each year for students who are interested. This is an optional event, but is highly encouraged as part of the learning experience. *My studio is in a safe, family-friendly home, and smoke-free environment. We have a small, friendly dog-named Kevin. He is low key and very quiet. You may or may not see him at your weekly lessons. We also have a gray cat, but you probably will not see her regularly. The studio is cleaned thoroughly each week to ensure that pet dander and other allergens are removed. So! What do you say? Shall we BEGIN THE JOURNEY TO MUSICAL SUCCESS? :) *** Studio Equipment *** I provide a safe, well-lit, studio space on the first floor of my home. I have an acoustic, upright piano, CD's, a laptop computer, a metronome, pencils, a tuner, and a music stand. You should plan to bring your instrument (for flutists), music, a spiral notebook for lesson assignments and notes, and a ready-to-learn attitude. *** Travel Equipment *** I provide some music and a metronome. I expect students to provide their instrument, music stand, recommended books/sheet music, a notebook, tuner, and a metronome. *** Specialties *** Classical Style
