Lesson Details

The goal in all of my teaching is to instill in students a lifelong love for music. My students can expect to have fun and feel excited about what they are learning. I am an enthusiastic teacher and I love helping students reach their full potential.

I like to build the curriculum around the student's skill, ability, and goals. But a typical lesson would begin with a weekly review, then scales, etudes, or other technique builders of our choice. I also like to play duets with my ... students to help them learn how to play in an ensemble setting and get their ears working. Then, we would work on a piece that is appropriate to the learner and their goals.

We work on our bigger piece/song selection for our semi-annual recitals that are held in December or May.

About

Music has always been my passion. When I was little, I used to drag around my little sister with the tape player and make her dance while I sang to Joseph and the Technicolor Dream Coat! My Mom taught me how to sing when I was little and I have to say that that was when my first love of music began. I started voice lessons in high school and sang on through college. Because of singing in various jazz and choral groups, I been able to travel the world including the Dominican Republic, Europe, ... China, and Taiwan. I still sing with a jazz combo in Clarksville, TN, performing gigs regularly around the Nashville area.

Around second grade, my Mom wanted me to enroll in piano lessons and I have been playing and accompanying ever since! I love to accompany others, but also enjoy singing and playing together as well and love to pass that on to my students.

My other musical passion, the flute, started in fifth grade. I began the flute and my parents enrolled me in professional lessons. The flute took me on to college and graduate school, where I earned full tuition and a stipend because of my playing. Since then I have won numerous competitions playing as the guest soloist with the local orchestras and been blessed to have played on a Grammy-nominated album with the Gateway Chamber Ensemble.
