Singing with Amy K.

Amy K is friendly and knowledgeable in music theory. She was interested in my personal goals as a musician and customized her lessons according to my aspirations. The homework assignments were geared into putting music theory into practice. Her lessons were organized and well put together. It did not seem like she threw a lesson plan together but labored over it with deep mother-like thought. Amy was patience and demonstrated a deep concern for my growth in understanding. One characteristic that distinguishes her from most teaches is her level of care. If you are not understanding a concept she will take as long as it takes until you do and will design other lessons to develop your areas of weakness. She is quick to listen and open to questions that you may have. I appreciate the times that she would pause after every section discussed to ask me, "Are there any questions before we move on?" She organizes her music theory lessons in such a way that covers a lot of ground while not being overwhelming and yet strikingly comprehensive. If you desire to learn music theory I highly recommend Amy K. She is not only a good teacher, but a good person who not only loves and enjoys music but people. She demonstrates a desire to see her students become the best in whatever they do.

In addition to having sung under Ms. Amy's baton, I have become very familiar with her work as a singer and educator. Ms. Amy is extremely thoughtful about vocal pedagogy, musicality, and finding the best way to positively affect her students. She holds singers to high standards, but works very hard to ensure that they will be successful both through careful reflection concerning her approach to each situation and finding appropriate resources. The fact that she genuinely wants students to succeed is very apparent. Her equally strong skills in radio, Spanish, and music make her uniquely suited to teach a variety of areas.

I loved to work with Amy very much. She was very accurate and specific when she taught English pronunciation, and she always could explain me why such an expression is better in writing when she suggested a different way!
