Specialties

I am very diverse in my style of teaching. I draw from what the student can most relate to, such as teaching a young teen songs and melodies from a video game they enjoy.

As an active musician, I mostly play hard rock/progressive metal with my band. Although I also play and teach Blues, Jazz, Folk, and other popular styles of the acoustic and electric guitar.

Lesson Details

Students have said I am fun and insightful. I work to maintain a relaxed lesson where the student does not feel like they are being "put on the spot." At the same time, I target problem areas in their playing and diagnose them accordingly, all while they are enjoying themselves playing the music they love. With this method of teaching, students leave happy and excited to go home and practice. Consequently they improve while playing the very music they picked up the guitar to play in the first ... place.

I am a generous and loyal teacher; you pay your hard earned money for me to help you or your child reach their musical goals. I dearly respect that, and little makes me happier than your progress with me. With that in mind, I never cut off a lesson early, and I often go into a few minutes of overtime if I feel there is something that you need to know or understand more thoroughly. I never book directly back to back for this very reason.

While studying with me, you can expect to progress smoothly and without bumps in your technique. If you already play at any level, and have problems with certain styles or techniques, I can help you correct them and help you avoid making the same mistakes.

Although I am primarily a rock musician, I will not force my style upon you. If you come to me with aspirations to be a singer songwriter for example, I will be there all the way through that goal or any other.

About

Music holds a very special place in my heart. Since I was young, I always had a profound interest in it. Throughout my years of becoming a musician, I traveled many paths and enjoyed a wide variety of music along the way. This included what was popular on the radio when I was a kid, and of course the music of video games that I played growing up.

As I picked up the guitar, I started to get into more styles and genres. I developed tastes for jazz, blues, soul, rock and metal of all kinds. I ... soon joined a thrash metal band and began composing music. Not long thereafter, I found myself helping out in a guitar class at school--and there began my teacher career! Now I'm teaching for over a decade.

Over my years of teaching, I have encountered countless students who had major breakthroughs, not only in their playing, but in the way they see themselves. Many of us short change ourselves, and fail to see our own potential.

With my patience, and the students' commitments to themselves, magic truly takes place! I like to say that good things take a long time to happen, but great things all at once... This is the way in which we improve at anything in life; we progress in plateaus rather than on a linear plane. That said, keep practicing and good will come of it!

I believe one should know a bit of everything around his field. With that philosophy, I went through audio school and became an engineer so I can understand how to tweak my tone as an electric guitarist, or simply to produce my own music. I continued on to get a degree in performing arts and then finally in music where I trained hard to attain skills in theory, musicianship, and composition, as well as getting a good grasp on the entirety of western music history.

I currently play with Infinite Spectrum, an NYC based progressive metal group. We are working on releasing our 80 minute concept album.
