    About Adriana S.

Hello! =) I am an active violin teacher and performer in the New York City area, and graduate of the Juilliard School. I earned my Bachelor of Music degree in Violin Performance, studying with the world-renowned violinist, Naoko Tanaka (Faculty, the Juilliard School, New England Conservatory of Music; Concertmaster, Orpheus Chamber Orchestra; Concertmaster, Orchestra of St. Luke's.) In addition to my private teaching studio, I assistant teach for Ms. Tanaka, with a focus on preparing her younger students for entry into Juilliard Pre-College. I also teach group classes and private lessons for the Harmony Program, offered in select public schools throughout NYC. In my lessons one thing is instantly noticeable - I LOVE to teach the violin. I think it's incredibly fun and I enjoy getting to know, challenge, and help my students. I value creativity and each person's unique perspective. *** Lesson Details *** I have experience teaching both adults and young children, levels beginning to advanced. My teaching philosophy values a fun and creative approach to learning music, focusing on musicality and improvisation, as well as a solid technical foundation. *** Studio Equipment *** Lessons in the living room, uses a room divider to section off lesson space. *** Travel Equipment *** I provide no equipment. The student will need a music stand, violin and bow, all necessary accessories, and sheet music. *** Specialties *** I am experienced with the Suzuki Method. These principles greatly influence my teaching methods, merged with a more traditional classical teaching style. I am an expert in both Ivan Galamian and Russian-School violin techniques, having been trained in both. My focus has been classical violin, though I am experienced in Scottish fiddling as well as in show-tunes and pop/rock music. I am also experienced in the Alexander Technique, and incorporate this perspective into my teaching philosophy.
