I am a professional musician who can give instruction on many musical styles ranging from Classical to Folk Music from several different countries. All ages are welcome!
As a student, I was involved for many years as a violist with The Louisville Youth Orchestra, I became a graduate of the Youth Performing Arts School in Louisville, Ky. in 1981 majoring in music and theater. I have since performed in a a broad spectrum of musical involvements including accompanying international folk dance troupes, performing Celtic and traditional music at events in several countries, composing music for, and directing several theatrical productions. At the same time I have been involved in educating children in music in several Community Schools throughout the Eastern U.S.. I now reside in Crestwood, Ky, where where I teach and operate a music shop called 'Hewn from the Mountain Music Cafe''.

Hello, I'm Alison and welcome to my page! I truly believe that music is a gift and I am passionate about sharing that gift through teaching and playing. I love music and I definitely love teaching private lessons, which I have been doing for about 5 years now! Every student brings new challenges of which I'm ready to tackle with them and help them grow.

I received a degree in viola performance from the University of Louisville School of Music in May 2010. I studied under Chien-Ju Liao along with many other great violists in the Louisville community. I've also had the pleasure of playing with many quartets, chamber ensembles and orchestras including Louisville Youth Orchestra, All-State, the UofL Symphony, and the Louisville Orchestra. Some of my greatest moments involve playing in Carnegie Hall and premiering a world-class ballet performance with the UofL Symphony Orchestra. I started playing piano when I was 8. I started writing compositions around 9. Since I was singing in the choir, I began to fuse piano and singing, until I wrote my first song with words when I was twelve. Along the way I learned guitar, bass, drums, and various forms of composition and recording techniques. I toured with my band The Navigators for several years and I have had compositions of mine in TV shows like "The Unit" and in the documentary "Dreamriders" as well as various independent films. Along the way I have taught every age group from six months of age up to adult.

Hi! I've traveled to Ireland, Austria, and Italy to study music, and I'm ready to bring it back and share it with you.

My piano lessons started before preschool at age 3; since then, I have taught myself many other instruments and styles, including classical training in violin and viola. For my semester abroad I studied music with the best in Vienna, Austria, the European capitol of classical music. I'm hoping to enter the Music Theory program at the University of Louisville graduate program so I can continue learning and eventually become a professor.

I hold two music degrees: Bachelor of Music Education with a Vocal Emphasis from Murray State University and a Master of Music in Choral Conducting from the University of Louisville. While at Murray State, I studied private voice with renowned Bach tenor, Dr. Randall Black. My singing experience includes singing with the Murray State Concert and Chamber Choirs, Paducah Symphony Chorus, Owensboro Symphony Chorus, Evansville Philharmonic, Choral Arts Society of Louisville, the University of Louisville Collegiate Chorale, and the University of Louisville Cardinal Singers (ranked 3rd in the world amongst competing choirs by Musica Mundi). I have appeared in several musicals. Some of my favorite roles include Zangler in Crazy For You, Cable in South Pacific, Nick Piazza in Fame, Henry Higgins in My Fair Lady, and Finch in How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying. I love music, I love teaching, and I've been fortunate enough to make a living doing both.

A little about me: I'm originally from Erie, PA. I started playing guitar in high school, and realized that I wanted to dedicate my life to music. I went on to earn my Bachelor's degree in music education from SUNY Fredonia. For my undergrad, I learned how to play piano and most of the band instruments (trumpet, saxophone, flute, percussion, etc), but I focused on classical guitar. I performed three separate recitals, and also played with the Fredonia Guitar Quartet for two years. I also learned how to play mandolin and tenor banjo (which I played with a Dixieland jazz band). While I am classical trained, my true love has always been rock and folk music.

I moved down to Louisville, KY to earn a masters degree in music history and literature. I wrote my thesis on Soviet composer Dmitri Shostakovich, and also published an article on a trip he made to Louisville. I currently teach both...

I am an involved teacher who has a strong passion for learning and teaching. I love to watch my students learn and succeed, and I make it my goal to give the students all the tools they require to do so. I have received music training on the bass guitar as well as rhythm guitar, and can offer everything from jazz training and bluegrass to rock and blues on bass, and from basic to intermediate lessons to rock guitar training on guitar. I have a music technology, as well as music degrees from Bellarmine University, and can also offer lessons in music theory and as well as recording lessons, and can even offer lessons about stage performance, and how to play to a crowd.

Simply stated, music is my life! I began piano lessons at age 8, and voice lessons at age 12. I am a graduate of the Youth Performing Arts School in Louisville. While at Y.P.A.S. I majored in Voice, and traveled with the Concert Choir performing in Canada, Austria, Germany, and at the 2001 United States Presidential Inauguration in Washington D.C.

I then went on to the University of Louisville, where I received a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance. While at U of L, I was awarded the Charme Von Bomhard Award for the most promising voice student in the area of opera. Also during my time at U of L I performed with the prestigious Cardinal Singers, with whom I toured extensively in Germany, and was featured at the World Symposium on Choral Music in Kyoto, Japan. I have also sang with the Kentucky Opera in performances of Puccini's Tosca and Madame Butterfly.

I have been playing guitar since the age of 9. I have studied Classical, and Jazz at CCM's Prep Dept. in middle school and throughout high school as well as rock, folk, country etc. with other local teachers. I started teaching lessons at the age of 18 in local music stores and have never stopped. While doing this I attended The College of Mount St. Joseph where I studied Classical and Jazz guitar as well as Music Ed. In addition to my 22 years of private lesson experience, I have 2 years of classroom experience teaching general music in elementary schools. I believe it is my years as a student and instructor that enable me to be an effective teacher, having had learned what worked for me as a student, and what has shown to work as a teacher.

I believe that everyone has the ability to sing, even the student with the most vocal faults. Will everyone that I teach go on to sing at the Metropolitan Opera, American Idol, or any other world famous music hall? Realistically speaking, the answer is no. However, I believe that with proper training, patience, and practice everyone can enjoy the art of singing within their own level of giftedness.

I take that time to listen to a student's instrument and lesson by lesson determine what is the best course of positive action that I and the student need to take in order to achieve the best results not just for today but for the longterm future. I want my students to be enjoy singing, sing excellently, but also have longevity with their voices.

Voice study requires discipline, patience, and the desire to be better everyday! There is a good deal of effort that the student must carry on their own in that they must practice what they have been taught and come prepared to lessons....
