I've been teaching both piano and voice for almost 40 years. I taught elementary vocal/general/choral music in our local public school system for 32 years. I added teaching privately about 10 years later. I work with students ages 3 and up for piano, and ages 8 and up for voice. I welcome students of all levels of experience from the earliest beginner to the most advanced. The lessons are largely focused on technique, theory, and developing skills, and can be adapted to incorporate each students goals. I encourage my students to perform in various talent shows, and other avenues as they become available. We have a Recital every May, and all students are guided through the development of their selected music to take it from the beginning stages to having it ready to perform.

I have taught piano students from as young as 5 years old up to a wonderful lady who was a grandmother many times over, and voice students from 10 years old up to adults. I have taught students of all ability levels, from the most basic beginner to very advanced performers. I welcome you to come to my home studio. I have both a Bachelor of Science degree and a Master of Arts degree in Music from the University of Indianapolis. I retired in 2009 from teaching in the Indianapolis area public schools after 32 years of teaching elementary vocal/general/choral music.

Singing lessons are unique to each individual. Care will be taken to teach the basics of good singing using the artists that students like. (ie: Carrie Underwood, Taylor Swift, Sting, etc.)
Music is my life, and is something that I want to share with others! Because of that, I try my best to give positive experiences to all of my students. I have a byline that says "Music is Much More than Just Learning Notes." I believe that! Anyone can learn notes, fingerings, etc. What I try to do is add that "soul" element that each person has and cultivate that into meaningful music!
So, with all that said, here's what I try to instill:
A lesson is a place to share! I listen to students as well as teach. We all have something we can learn from each other!
While I want lessons to be fun and informative, I strive for complete understanding, which means any student will gain the needed mechanics with complete knowledge of why things ...

From the amateur and recreational singer to the professional vocalist, my teaching is designed to help singers develop a sustainable vocal technique that is grounded in solid scientific knowledge as it pertains to the anatomy and physiology of the breathing and phonatory mechanisms, as well as the acoustical laws of the singing voice. With all students, I strive to offer an environment of excellence in which the healthiest development of the vocal artist can be achieved. I see that each student be nurtured as an individual and patiently given the opportunity to attain a firm understanding of vocal pedagogy, lyric diction, song literature, performance practices, stage deportment, and all other aspects that help develop an expressive and sensitive artist. More importantly, I aim to provide all of my students with information that will help them teach themselves.
The nature of the human voice is affected by every aspect of who we are—our physical, emotional, ...
