Hi! My name is Janet, and I would like to be your new music lessons teacher! As a quick biography, I have 20+ years of experience teaching both piano and voice lessons. I have taught students from as young as 4 years old up to a wonderful lady who was a grandmother many times over. I have taught students of all ability levels, from the most basic beginner to very advanced performers. I welcome you to come to my home studio. I have both a Bachelor of Science degree and a Master of Arts degree in Music from the University of Indianapolis. I retired in 2009 from teaching in the Indianapolis area schools after 32 years of teaching elementary vocal/general/choral music.

I have taught Guitar for over 20 years. Played Guitar and Bass in my church's Praise Band for even longer. Well versed in Music Theory and have taught numerous songs. I have had one Top 10 and three Top 40 songs on Ourstage.com

Alex was born May 31, 1987. Since both of his parents were band directors, he grew up in a very musically inclined family. When he was 15 years old, during his freshman year of high school, he started studying percussion. A year later he began studying under Chad Kohler and continued to do so until 2009. During spring semester of 2009 he studied briefly under Richard Walker at Indiana University Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI). In the fall of that year he then transferred to Butler University for an academic year and studied under Craig Hetrick and Jon Crabiel.

Beginning in 2011 Alex began studying attending University of Indianapolis and is currently studying under Paul Berns as well as Art Reiner. In addition to studying with them he has also went back to continue to study with his mentor Chad Kohler. In the time since Alex graduated high school, he has been continuously presented with teaching opportunities. At the time, though, music was not looking like the best...

I began my musical training at the age of 5yrs on the piano. I had the fortune to teach piano to my fellow students in the sixth grade through our music class. At the age of 13 I began lessons for playing drums. I played those for six years. during that time I picked up playing guitar. My background in music gave me the ability to teach myself. In tenth grade I was an assistant to the music instructors of several Jr high schools through the teachers aid program. This was in 1970-72. I began playing live at the age of 19 in talent contests as well a paying gigs in pubs. In this time frame i.e. 2013 I am playing solo gigs and sometimes with a band. I have written songs as well as formed my own arrangements. Nevertheless, in the area of teaching I was a chief instructor for my own Karate school for some time. I have begun to focus more on teaching music since I have retired from the martial arts. That stated I have experience with working with kids and adults from age 5 to 50.

Music is my life, and is something that I want to share with others! Because of that, I try my best to give positive experiences to all of my students. I have a byline that says "Music is Much More than Just Learning Notes." I believe that! Anyone can learn notes, fingerings, etc. What I try to do is add that "soul" element that each person has and cultivate that into meaningful music!

So, with all that said, here's what I try to instill:

A lesson is a place to share! I listen to students as well as teach. We all have something we can learn from each other!
While I want lessons to be fun and informative, I strive for complete understanding, which means any student will gain the needed mechanics with complete knowledge of why things happen and what they do to and for music. From there, I attempt to teach the "soul" of music and how emotion and spirit play a huge part in memorable music.
