About Me

Hello everyone! I've been singing since the age of 3 and performing since the age of 6. I am not only an experienced music teacher with a passion for music and teaching, but an experienced performer, and songwriter. I started performing at a young age with the Columbia School of Theatrical Arts, and as I grew older I studied different techniques such as speech level singing, classical, and even techniques from Brett Manning, one of the most amazing vocal coaches today who teaches artists such as Haley Williams from Paramore. I have experience performing many styles of music, and also was a voice major in college. The students I teach will benefit from my contemporary techniques, and can learn to sing in almost any style of music they choose.

*** Lesson Details ***
Do you want to learn how to sing your favorite song just like the artist? I can teach you the techniques! Or how about how to make a cover song your own based off of your own unique voice? We can work together to find, develop, and build the amazing qualities that you have in your voice. I will not only work on aspects of what you would like to improve on with your voice personally, but I will make an individual plan for you that will dramatically improve your voice! I will work with you individually to strengthen any weakness you may have in a fun environment. I am fun, encouraging and motivating! When asking students to do any vocal exercises, I will explain what the certain exercise does to improve your voice so that you can have the knowledge you need to be a good vocalist, and not just know how to sing properly. You will learn many things in lessons and what I teach you will vary on where you are vocally.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I can provide a keyboard, CD, Boom box, music sheets, etc. Students do not need to provide anything.

*** Specialties ***
Speech level singing method, classical techniques, singing success, various genres including: pop, blues, contemporary, and musical theatre. I utilize the different techniques I have learned through proper classical training, but mix it with contemporary methods I have learned from speech level singing methods.

About Me

Arguably one of the most dynamic emerging vocal producers and songwriters to penetrate the music industry, “Candy” offers a brave, but fresh take on life through song. A native of Washington D.C., Candy studied and performed with the esteemed Washington Performing Arts Society for 7 years and graduated from Howard University with a degree in Fine Arts. She has also trained and studied with the Seth Riggs team directly in Los Angeles, which afforded her 2 years of solid experience with the technique used by Whitney Houston, Beyonce', Michael Jackson and many other greats. Broadway technique and Musical Theatre are no stranger to her either, with 4 years of professional training and performing in the genre. Having written her first song at 16, Candy is practiced. “My lyrics are bold, vulnerable, transparent & imaginative. I'm critical except in some very cathartic moments where I'm venting completely free...” Candy explains. With a range that spans several genres, it becomes increasingly easy to see why her buzz is growing. Candy has already worked with some of the most respected names in music including Rich Harrison (Crazy In Love-Beyonce, No One Gonna Love You-Jennifer Hudson), Jazze Pha (Ciara, Cee Lo, T.I.), and James “Big Jim” Wright (Yolanda Adams, Chaka Khan, Mariah Carey, Michael Jackson), having also caught the attention of Missy Elliot and Swizz Beats. The list continues to expand. We all have a story to tell and with Candy’s star only just beginning to rise. This fresh, experienced, professional hopeful has a lot to offer.

*** Lesson Details ***
My approach is student specific. Everyone does not respond to the same teaching style. I will assess where you are vs where you aspire to be and together, we will formulate a plan to get you there. In 3-6 months, the biggest thing you will walk away with is the confidence to explore and perform to your greatest potential, and the understanding that it will grow with you as you do. I am offering methods I've benefited from and acquired across multiple genres of music, each having heavily impacted the other. I am also an advocate for hands on learning! Let's dig in and get to it! Let's also record your lessons on my Protools set up so that you forever have a point of reference.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Living room set up.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I expect them to have the ability to take notes in a way that works for them (hand-held recorder, pen & paper/laptop, etc). They should also provide material they would like to focus on or I can provide as well, once discussed.

*** Specialties ***
I gear toward a focus of bringing the student into the moment/lesson and the artist into the performance. It is my goal in every aspect of teaching to help my students find truths to which they can relate and live honestly within. Finding a relatable link between them and the content of the lesson has made all the difference in my learning and teaching experience. I believe honing in on that honesty to be the key to an exceptionally developed craft. My style is defined by the ability to experience each new moment in the now, as you are. In doing so, you open yourself up and become readily available to internalize the nuances of your learning process.

About Me

Michael has worked with kids for 10 years in schools and arts programs to find fun and their best self through performance. He has taught orchestra, chamber music, jazz band and music theory in the public schools, while performing in local ensembles in and around the city. He also has studied drama, voice and movement and believes all these skills help in expressing yourself--no matter what pieces you want to play!

In addition to working with students K-12, he also loves working with adults. I try to provide a nurturing atmosphere for someone trying revive or discover previously hidden musical interests!

*** Lesson Details ***
We begin with what we love. The student usually chooses one of his or her favorite songs to interpret. Later, we add music, usually from the classical or jazz fields, that build our skills and help us feel successful. All technique is based on real music. Learning scales, keys and music theory become part of the music. By the end of 6 months, we will have a "repertoire" of several songs that express our best self!

About Me

I am an international recording artist and seasoned performer. I have been playing music since the early age of 8 yrs old. I have always been inspired by music and love to inspire others with music. Some of my accomplishments include putting an album out with Universal Records as a Nashville recording artist, having over 7 albums out internationally, and recording and playing with some of the biggest names in the music industry. I am a classically trained musician as well as an innovative and experienced teacher. In addition to being a private music teacher, I have also taught at many schools in the valley including the Center for Educational Excellence School, Grand Canyon Preparatory private charter school and the Arizona Music Academy. I teach all levels of guitar, bass, and drums and tailor every lesson to the individual student’s needs and personality. My annual recitals are live-performance concerts featuring bands and other performing groups formed from among my students along with solo performances. My students also perform regularly throughout the community and are successful in their musical endeavors at all ages. I teach a wide range of genres and styles from classical music, blues, jazz and rock to heavy metal with an emphasis on becoming A-Level lead guitar soloists and song writers. I teach songwriting skills, music theory, and have even helped many of my guitar students be able to sing better while learning their main instrument.

Patti G. Glendale, AZ

Subjects Taught

Broadway Singing, Music Theory, Opera Voice, Piano, Singing, Speaking Voice

About Me

I have 30 years of teaching experience and have enjoyed a successful singing, teaching and conducting career in the US and Australia. I have excellent piano skills and can sight-read and play most piano accompaniments for my voice students. No two students are alike so I teach everyone according to their needs and their learning style. I have an exceptional understanding of the voice and communicate using tangible imagery to produce excellent results. I work with all levels of singers from beginners to career level in Broadway, Pop and Classical styles. Beyond university training, I have had training from teachers and coaches from the Metropolitan Opera, Houston Grand Opera, Arizona Opera and many others.
With piano, again, technique is important but lessons must be FUN! I like using innovative ideas and materials so that learning is exciting.

Practice is important for progress so the more you practice the faster you progress.

Because there is always more to learn, I continue to study and attend master-classes and workshops so I can be the best teacher I can be.

*** Lesson Details ***
I always want my students to leave their lessons knowing that they are better at the end of the lesson than they were at the beginning. Lessons are all about skill-building, so fundamentals of technique, theory and repertoire are included elements. I'm pretty laid back but know that practice is essential to progress. To that end, I always want my students to understand how to practice, not just what to practice. Practice doesn't make perfect, it makes permanent! My goal as a teacher is not just to help you achieve your goals, but to give you the ability to build on your own skills by knowing the how and the why, not just the what.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Lessons in the music room, yamaha clavinova, computer, iPad, Apple TV, music stands, good lighting

*** Travel Equipment ***
Students must have a piano that is tuned and in good working order or a full 88-key weighted action keyboard. Voice students must provide a recording device. All students will be required to purchase music books.

*** Specialties ***
I specialize in teaching the Italian school of "bel canto" singing. This technique provides complete connection of breath, voice and body and applies to all styles of singing.

For piano, I don't adhere to any one method though I like the Piano Discovery Series very much.

DANCE LESSON INFORMATION:

There are a few rules of dance etiquette that any reputable instructor will ask you to follow:

- Please come dressed appropriately. My studio maintains a dress code, so please arrive in appropriate dance attire. Belly dancers may wear yoga pants and athletic tops (belly dance skirts are also perfect). I can provide coin belts.

- While in belly dancing we dance barefooted, ballroom dancing does require special shoes. These are highly recommended. Please note that sneakers are discouraged (rubber soles will stick to the floor and impede your movement). If you want to try a lesson or two in regular shoes, that's fine. Just be sure to wear shoes with a leather sole.

- Please arrive 5 minutes prior to your lesson so that you are ready to go when your lesson time begins. If you arrive late, you will forfeit that time.

- Cancellations require a 24-hour notice. This policy allows us to offer your lesson time to another student.

Most important, lesson times are all about YOU. Each lesson will continually build on your knowledge and skills. If you're interested in choreographing a routine or in competing, please let me know. Your dance instruction will be customized just for you, your skill level, and your goals.

Happy dancing!
