I'm originally from South Texas, have lived in Chicago, and am now based out of Louisville, KY. I've been teaching for over 12 years, and I love it! Music is a huge passion of mine, and I love helping students reach their musical potential. Whether you're looking to learn to play an instrument you've always wanted to play, learn how to play some of your favorite songs, or just want to learn for fun, I'm here to help you!
Singing, Opera Voice, Speaking Voice
Simply stated, music is my life! I began piano lessons at age 8, and voice lessons at age 12. I am a graduate of the Youth Performing Arts School in Louisville. While at Y.P.A.S. I majored in Voice, and traveled with the Concert Choir performing in Canada, Austria, Germany, and at the 2001 United States Presidential Inauguration in Washington D.C.
I then went on to the University of Louisville, where I received a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance. While at U of L, I was awarded the Charme Von Bomhard Award for the most promising voice student in the area of opera. Also during my time at U of L I performed with the prestigious Cardinal Singers, with whom I toured extensively in Germany, and was featured at the World Symposium on Choral Music in Kyoto, Japan. I have also sang with the Kentucky Opera in performances of Puccini's Tosca and Madame Butterfly.
Currently, I sing at many venues and with various groups throughout the Louisville Metro area. I perform music in a wide variety of styles and genres, including classical, jazz, and rock/ pop. I am the lead singer of a successful local band called Smooth Blvd. We perform dance music from numerous genres and decades, including such artists as Aretha Franklin, Bonnie Raitt, Whitney Houston, No Doubt, Janelle Monae , and much more. I am also a regularly featured soloist with Louisville's own Derby City Brass Band, the Rascals of Ragtyme, and the Paul Davis Quartet. In addition to all of this, I also perform a great deal of sacred literature as a cantor for St. Joseph Catholic Church, where I sing Masses in both English and Spanish.
As you can see I have a great deal of experience and expertise in many areas, and I look forward to sharing all of this and more with my students.
Bass Guitar, Drum, Guitar, Piano, Singing, Acting, Mandolin, Music Performance, Music Recording, Music Theory, Percussion, Songwriting, Speaking Voice
I started playing piano when I was 8. I started writing compositions around 9. Since I was singing in the choir, I began to fuse piano and singing, until I wrote my first song with words when I was twelve. Along the way I learned guitar, bass, drums, and various forms of composition and recording techniques. I toured with my band The Navigators for several years and I have had compositions of mine in TV shows like "The Unit" and in the documentary "Dreamriders" as well as various independent films. Along the way I have taught every age group from six months of age up to adult.
First of all, with my education and work experience, I feel as if I am most qualified to teach students from grades K-12. The majority of my students have been within that age range and I feel that I have had the best results in my teaching career with students in that age range. And now...onto a little more about me!
Growing up in a musical family, I was free to delve into all the music that my heart desired. I began piano lessons at the age of 6 and later became fascinated with the cello and begged my parents to begin lessons. I started cello lessons at the age of 12, while also continuing piano lessons. By the time my Senior year came around, I knew exactly what I wanted to do in the future: share my love of music with anyone who wanted to learn!
Being awarded a String Scholarship to Lebanon Valley College in Annville, Pennsylvania, I began to pursue a Music Education Degree with a focus in Cello. I performed in the Orchestra, Choir, accompanied on piano at recitals, and was a part of the Performing Quartet - where we had the fun of performing at weddings and special events. Yes, I have played Pachelbel's Cannon on the cello numerous times! I began to teach private lessons in 2007.
After graduating in 2009, I went on to teach music at Pennsylvania public Schools from 2009-2012. I have co-directed an Elementary orchestra program and taught general music and chorus, grades K-6. I also continued to teach private lessons after school. In 2012, I began a new life with my husband in Indiana and left my students from Pennsylvania behind. I am excited about teaching Indiana/Kentucky students who share my love of music. Teaching is my passion. I care very much about my students and want to help them develop their musical talents and reach their goals. My goal is for students to have exciting and enriching experiences with music. I love to make music, and I'm sure that you will as well!
Piano, Violin, Music Theory, Viola
Hello, I'm Alison and welcome to my page! I truly believe that music is a gift and I am passionate about sharing that gift through teaching and playing. I love music and I definitely love teaching private lessons, which I have been doing for about 7 years now! Every student brings new challenges of which I'm ready to tackle with them and help them grow.
I received my degree in viola performance from the University of Louisville School of Music in May 2010. I studied under Chien-Ju Liao along with many other great violists in the Louisville community. I've also had the pleasure of playing with many quartets, chamber ensembles and orchestras including Louisville Youth Orchestra, All-State, the UofL Symphony, and the Louisville Orchestra. Some of my greatest moments involve playing in Carnegie Hall and premiering a world-class ballet performance with the UofL Symphony Orchestra. Music has been a part of my life since I was little and I can't imagine life without it. Along with viola, I also study, play and teach piano and violin. I have been playing viola now for 14 years and piano for about 12!
Singing, Acting, Broadway Singing, English, History, Music Performance, Opera Voice, Reading
I hold a Vocal Performance degree from Bowling Green State University. I am trained in classical singing as well as musical theater. I am able to teach singing in Italian, German, French, and English. My teaching style is based on the classical style of singing, which gives students a firm and healthy foundation of singing, no matter what style of music they prefer. An experienced performer, I am also able to coach on acting and emoting and interpretation.
