I grew up in a musical home, my father was a rock and roll and soul session drummer throughout the '60's and '70's in New York. I picked up the guitar at 11 years old and started taking lessons. After studying classical and jazz throughout high school I attended William Paterson University from 1994 - 1997, majoring in Music Education and studying with jazz guitar guru Vic Juris and classical guitarist Rich Jacobowski.

In 1997, I moved to Brooklyn and cut my teeth in the NYC R&B and rock club scene playing in the band Sole Pocket, and with various jazz combos at many other clubs including the Blue Note and the Knitting Factory. In 2003 I returned to college at CCNY (city college of New York), majoring in Jazz Performance and studying with Ornette Coleman alum, Kenny Wessel. My name is Joe and I work in NYC as a Lead Guitarist, Musical Director and Actor. I have recorded, toured, and performed for most of my life. Music has taken me to other parts of the world and I share what I've learned to my students so they can enjoy and experience music like I have.
At 16 years of age, I began formal tutoring from G.I.T. graduates and studied at numerous guitar seminars and workshops. By 22 I had my first record deal in Germany.

I am an upright bass, bass guitar and guitar player who performs almost 7 nights a week in NYC, and abroad. It is this practical knowledge and my great love of music that informs the way I teach. I graduated from ASU in 2005 with an emphasis on jazz guitar. Then I lived in Brazil for a little bit and fell in love with samba, bossa nova, mpb, and chorro. I went back to Arizona for 2 years then had the rare opportunity to teach in Bermuda. While there I conducted a jazz camp, recorded a jazz duo album, played 'The Full Monty' musical, and taught private lessons and group lessons at the high school. Since moving to NYC in early 2009 I've been playing out at several clubs and bars with a wide variety of groups.
