I have only received 3 lessons so far and all have been a wonderful experience. I am not a professional singer nor have I ever had any lessons singing. I simply just want to learn 1 song to sing to my future husband. OJ has made every lesson fun while I am learning and I know in time I will reach my goal.

Fun, Easy to Work with

This teacher has an easy, fun loving spirit. I have learned important tips to improve my singing, such as, to name a few, where to place my tongue, the importance of enunciation, and scaling from high to low notes without breaking. I would recommend him as a teacher.

Great Teacher

Throughout my life, I have been singing in Gospel choirs and for years, I have been an alto. After meeting with OJ, he helped me find my voice. He was able to determine my vocal range and I found out that I was never an alto, but a lyric soprano. I was so shocked, but excited at the same time. I thought that was amazing because he helped me discover my true vocal range. OJ is knowledgeable, patient, and fun to work with.
Jessica H. Parkville, MD

About Jessica

Dear students and parents,

Hello and welcome to takelessons.com! My name is Jessica and I am a Baltimore born and bred classically trained violinist with over 19 years of playing experience. Music has always been passion of mine since a very young age, so it was inevitable that it would end up being my career. Naturally, a love for teaching the wonders of music followed suit!

I always try to form a great rapport with my students and parents from the very first lesson. For younger students, I encourage my parents to take an active part in both lessons and daily practice, as is encouraged by Shinichi Suzuki.

I've been teaching violin and viola professionally for over 8 years now. My experience includes teaching private lessons at students homes as well as at various music ...

Jessica started teaching my son in Feb 2014, just after he turned 5. He told me that he wanted to play an instrument and chose the violin, so we went online and found Jessica here and on the Suzuki website. Her experience and reviews really stood out and I can tell you from our personal experience that every word is true. She is the most patient, kind, fun, engaging, and positive teacher you could ask for for your child. And on top of it all, she is an excellent violinist herself who really understands music and how to explain it.

My son has come a really long way and he is very proud to be able to play the violin! He is not always the easiest to work with, (some days his favorite word is 'no'!) but she really encourages him when he gets frustrated and I know she is a big part of why he has come so far.

One of the things I love about Jessica is her ability to adapt seamlessly to the needs of her students. She is flexible and able to adjust what she does to take advantage of her students' strengths and gradually improve their weaknesses and doesn't just stick to one way of teaching. She is also incredibly accessible if you have questions or need guidance and always stays in touch, even with her busy schedule.

After a few months of my son taking lessons, we even decided to hire her for an extra half hour so that I could get formal instruction too. I am 39 and never seriously played an instrument before (1 year of elementary school clarinet, notwithstanding) yet she can go right from teaching my 5 yr old to working with me without missing a beat. I feel like she brings out the best in her students and I see concrete improvement in my own skills and understanding every week and can't believe how far I have come in only a few months with her.

So bottom line is whether you are 5 or 50 and no matter your experience level, if you are looking for a violin teacher, I highly recommend hiring Jessica immediately

Murray P. Baltimore, MD

About Murray

My musical career started at age 3 when my parents placed a pair of drum sticks in my hands. I started playing drums in church and then progressed to play in middle school where I was part of the jazz band and orchestra. With some very early lessons, I begin to blossom into a skillful drummer. I then continued to play in bands in high school and, in addition, became a member of the Milford Mill Academy Marching Band. In my sophomore year, I became the section leader of the drum line where I played & mastered the snare drum. I have 2 degrees in music theory from Deer Park Magnet school and Morgan State University. I have performed with many bands from all different musical genres such as gospel, funk, pop, jazz, blues, rock, Latin, reggae, and R&B. In 2004 I became the only ...

One of many words to describe Murray, AWESOMENESS! Meeting Murray and learning under his instructions has brought a bigger meaning to playing the drums. His love of drums and music shows in how he teaches his students. He never criticizes your mistakes and works along side of you, teaching you, until you learn and understand it all. He is very patient, professional and the best drummer I have ever met. I am truly blessed to have him as an instructor and look forward to many years of his teachings. Not enough stars in the world to rate him!!!!!

About Belinda

*** Lesson Details ***
NOTE: I prefer to teach students ages 11 & up.† I will accommodate younger students, but as vocal development is a direct reflection of physical development (the instrument is the body), we will be unable to delve deeply into technique.† Instead, the curriculum for younger students will include musicianship and piano skills; they will be more of music lessons that incorporate singing rather than "vocal" lessons.† My current studio consists of all sorts of singers including classical, musical theater, R&B, and pop.† In classical voice lessons, we will be learning songs not only in English, but also Italian, German, and French. Classical voice lessons may not be for everyone, however, and we will learn repertoire that suits the ...

Grace Is Tops!

By the end of May, I will have been working with Grace for six months. During that time, I have learned so much! I now feel I understand how to attack a new piano piece, and I am slowly gaining skill in executing it. My love for the instrument has simply skyrocketed!

Grace has an amazing skill set. Not only does she possess expert knowledge of the piano, but she exhibits that unique ability to convey her knowledge to others, in a straightforward, engaging, and often humorous manner.

Each lesson fires me to learn more and more, and I am very happy with the results!
