I love teaching and feel that I have a gift for it. I have taught over 250 students - all ages, levels, and styles - who would describe me as a patient, consistent and authentic teacher who gets great results, while maintaining a positive, low pressure teaching environment. My teaching style is "student centered." I believe it is important for students to learn and understand music at their own pace and on there own terms in order to achieve the best results. It is my job to take every opportunity to encourage students' interests while providing them with the tools, skills and knowledge that will transform those interests into unlimited musical abilities.

I am very good with children and served as the Director (and guitar teacher) for the Salvation Army Creative Arts Program for Youth in Billings, MT. I started taking piano lessons at the ripe age of 4, but I quickly found my calling on the guitar. At the age of 20, and with 13 years of playing experience, I graduated from the Roberto-Venn School of Luthiery (guitar building), after building both an acoustic and an electric guitar and receiving repair certification from Fender.
I later completed my Bachelor’s Degree of Music in the field of classical guitar performance, at ASU in 2007.
During this time I expanded to other instruments such as the Ukulele, Banjo, Mandolin, Dulcimer and Bass Guitar.

I am involved with a number of extra musical activities that are available for you. First, I am part of a weekly jam session where my students meet and jam on a rotation with other music students in the phoenix area (drummers, singers, piano players, other guitarists of all ages) From this has spawned a number of bands. I love music! To me, it truly is a universal language, and nothing else can capture and express emotion quite like it. Ever since I picked up a guitar 15 years ago, I've been on a quest to learn and speak the language of music. One discovery I have made along the way is that I love teaching it to others, too!

Over the past 10 years, I've been busy immersing myself in music. The excitement of performing live on stage, the pride of writing a song that touches someone, the reward of watching a student learn something new—these are the things that fuel my passion. My dream is that my students will one day be able to experience these things!

I've been teaching guitar lessons for over 5 years, and I just recently graduated from ASU with a B.S. in psychology. Also, I am co-founder, producer, and engineer at an independent recording studio in Mesa, AZ. This broad range of experience makes me confident that I have lots to offer for every student, beginning to advanced.

I am a Board-Certified Music Therapist with over twenty years of Therapy and Teaching experience. I am a DePaul University Music graduate and studied Classical Guitar with Richard Pick. I enjoy working with beginning and challenging students and love singing and playing guitar.

I started playing music by taking group piano lessons through a Yamaha music school when I was about 7 years old. I started playing drums when I was 11 and guitar at 13. By the time I was in high school, I was involved playing all different types of percussion in the marching band, jazz band, and steel drum band, in addition to developing an interested in music recording and production. This was also the time when I started to teach drum lessons. Since then, I have played in multiple bands in venues all over Phoenix. I have worked on production for albums and videos for many different bands. I have also completed an Interdisciplinary Degree in Arts and Music at ASU.

I teach music. The guitar just happens to be the particular instrument I choose. Music as a language, discipline, and art, is the goal. I've been teaching, performing, studying, composing, for some thirty years. I've studied and gigged in the classical, jazz, rock, blues, and country idioms. I've taught composition and improvisation to instruments other than guitar, (vocalists, fiddle, sax, piano, trumpet) I've taught all ages and levels. I currently pursue a doctorate of music in guitar at university. Students learn many things when studying with me. They learn physically how to play a particular instrument while learning music as its own language. Students learn how to learn, learn self-discipline, and access their musical expression, all life changing experiences.

My name is Lou and I have been playing guitar since the age of 14. I was a manager at Colorado's largest music store retailers'. Quite often, I have been the one behind the scenes either teaching, recording, engineering, or running live sound.
I started teaching when I was 18 years old, it just seemed I had an ability to make sense out the guitar. I understand after years of teaching what motivates and helps students get to their goals.
